Which Atlas For A Third?

I've never piloted an Atlas, but I think my play style is more suited to a close range build....but I'm not against using LRMs. I do drop solo quite a bit though...so maybe close range Atlas isn't the best for that, given that most PUGs stop going with a push as soon as the enemy starts firing...

Any K drivers out there wanna share their experiences? What is the survivability like?
My choice of the D is due to the standard engine increasing my ability to not get cored as quickly and I can throw a gauss on in place the AC20. Then I'll have more than just the LRMs for engaging at range.

Chainfire the LLs and use the AC20 for anyone who gets close.
Other than that, the D is just the DDC without ECM, the K has dual AMS which is actually mildly useful now, but in my opinion? Only the RS and the Boar's Head offer something unique.
Waaaaaait - forgot the D is my zombie Atlas. My four are the RS, D, DDC, and Boar's Head (which is a weird, weird mech - don't get one until you're real comfortable with the mech).

So basically, get the D. Thats the most common response you'll get, that is.
... god that sounded unintentionally sexual.
Also, I made this thread before the Atlas-S was announced. You might find some useful answers in there. Personally, I walked away from it favouring the K over the RS.

For what its worth, here is my Atlas-D

Fairly typical, except for the LRMs instead of SRMs. Its nothing special or unique, but its quite reliable, and the LRMs give my Atlas some extra range that they usually lack, as well as the ability to do some damage to the enemy before a push without doing ridge peeking or corner peeking and both losing a decent portion of your armour and giving the other team notice that there's an Atlas ready to swarm them, giving them time to prepare.

I'm a "horrible" Atlas pilot... but I attribute that to not really playing it... ever... LOL... more like 11 drops in it since they started tracking stats (current and archived...)
So, figure start running it more building up the XP (and skills since we all know Mechs with no Pilot Skills are little more than paper weights for the most part)... and then work on the freebie S when we get it...

I have the D because, well you know...
I had the K before the reset, but kinda regret it, similar hardpoints layout with the D, just with 2 ams, which is "meh" kinda deal. You can fit the any K's build to the D, but you cant fit the D build into the K.
A month a go, I purchased the RS becasuse, I played the trial on and off since its release and acumulated the xp, so, in order to master it, I had to buy it. Played it for a while recently, and its not bad, 4Enrgy on the arms feels more flexible (if you dont lock the arms)

Theres nothing more powerful feeling than having no side torsos, no armor anywhere and still plodding along killing people who wrote you off.
So yeh, D. But I'm a founder, so.
I paid off the XP with GXP on the K that I bought (Bought for the XL engine more than the mech) after not being able to make it do anything of note.

Here's what I'm currently using (STD330,AC20,2xLPL,2xSRM6):
AS7-D
Before the AC2 nerf I was running 1 Gauss(3ammo), 1 AC2(2ammo), 3 ERLL, and 2 SRM4(1 ton ammo). STD 325 and some DHS. Probably wouldn't be good anymore but it really put out the damage back then.
UAC5+AC10+4 MPLs is a great brawler with a STD 340 and a bunch of DHS.

On my Atlas D I have it as mostly brawler but some medium-range as well: (2)LBX-10 (6 tons ammo), 2 LL, (2) SRM-4 (2 tons ammo), AMS, and 2 SL in the CT. You can swap out the LBX's for UAC/5's and get this build (with ENDO). It's been a while since I piloted the D. Before Clans came out I was majoring in one of my 3 DDC builds, the RS and the Boar's Head (Hero 'Mech).
Boar's Head: 58 Firepower, decent all-range 'Mech.
Atlas K: 48 firepower, does best in a group.
DDC 1: 53.20 firepower
DDC 2: 68.70 firepower, my favourite of the three
DDC 3: 76.60 firepower, second favourite

I loved this build, if you alternate fire with 2 in each arm you can keep a near constant rate of fire on someone, if you got good aim you can take torso's very quickly. You rarely have to worry about heat build up unless you are in a long engagement. When I was good with this build I got swarmed by 3 light mechs and made very short work of 2 of them on Frozen city, their friend ran
