I was wondering if it will be possible to have several variants of the same mech in your garage?

you would would probably buy multiple of the same chassis/variation of the same mech, then kit them out to your liking.

Different variants will have different hardpoints, so it may become necessary to carry several of the same chasis in your garage if there is a particular one you like.

Not least, multiple hulls would allow you to have them set up for different map types.

I plan to use the slots for different mech hulls when they get a decent number that I like. :(

For sure, far as I can tell you can buy any mech however many times you want.

Catapult C1 for the hot maps

Catapult K2 for the cold maps

They are planning on releasing 4 variants for each chasis. And there might be a reason to spend time piloting all of them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole advancement along a specific mech's experience tree tied to piloting all its variants?

I.e. Before you can get to level 2 in your CPLT-C1, you first have to reach level 1 in all Catapult variants? I thought that was in one of the dev blogs.

I certainly plan on owning multiple versions of the Cicada, and perhaps the Dervish or Catapult.

ummm i think there are only 4 spots in your garage for mechs, not counting the founder ones you have. So sure you can have multiple cicada variants...if that is all you have

I plan on multiple Variants of Multiple Chassis, Hunchback, Ciccada and Trebuchet for sure, outside the medium classes Dragon and Cataphract as well. Most likely 3 of Each starting with the Hunchback.

My hope is that once you buy one variant, the other variants of that chassis are heavily discounted in price. I couldn't imagine paying full price, or even 1/4 price, for each subsequent variant.

Assuming you can buy more garage slots, I will commonly have variants of the same chassis.

I believe that the experience by Mech is by weight class if I remember the original Dev posts correctly. You don't improve in just one varient, but all Lights, Mediums, Heavies or Assaults. So a lot of seat time in Cat C-1 will carry over to your Cat K as both are heavies (being vcarients of the same mech and all)

Keep in mind that the views they have of the mechlab from these videos are very early on and will probably have more mech slots. Never seen a mech game that had only 4 slots. for the abundant amount of mechs out there you should have at least 12 if it is capped at all which i would put my 2 cents and say it shouldn't be. If they have the C-bills let em buy what they want unrestricted within the games system.

To quote dev blog 4 (http://mwomercs.com/...e-warfare-cont/):
This is the basic layout of the tree for any of the ’Mechs or variants that we launch with (or when we initially introduce the base model and chassis of any brand new ’Mech). Players need to spend XP to unlock all of the upgrades on each tier in order to be able to access the next tier. The jump jet related upgrades on tier 4 would be removed for any ’Mech that doesn’t have jump jets. In order to access Elite I, the player needs to not only unlock all upgrades on tiers 1-4 of this model, but they have to do the same for every initial variant. After they access and spend XP to unlock Elite I, tier 5 is then accessible for all initial variants. Elite II is accessed in a manner similar to Elite I. The player must have unlocked tier 8 on each of the initial variants.

You're still going to have to use every variant a lot.

Quite a feat given that you only get only 4 slots... (plus the Founder mechs). This was confirmed, I think, by the devs and can be seen on the Mechlab video.

They'd be stupid not to sell additional mech slots.
I have this pretty solid hunch they aint stupid..
Just sayin'.

This is true, but in a question about Founder mechs, the devs did state that the Founder mechs were in addition to the 4 we get normally.

Of course, buying extra mech slots may well be a possible as an extra income - this is normal for games - SW:TOR you need to pay in-game currency for extra inventory slots and I think also in APB: Reloaded, you need to pay if you want more than a few decals on a vehicle. This is how F2P games make their money (or one way, indeed).

hehe kinda on the same track tbh - but I doubt they'd sell that many - you never know though - and I wish you every luck in getting them all. :(
