When you're tired of grinding XP on variants, when you're tired of losing, when you're tired of experimenting, when you're tired of filling a certain role for the team... what is your all-time favourite crutch mech? That 1 mech you don't hesitate to launch with because you love to play it regardless of the match outcome?

Mine would have to be my Phoenix Shadowhawk 2H SHD-2H(C)

A little bit of range with the LL, shreds lights at close range with the 3x MG and 3x SSRM2, good speed and mobility, jump jets, BAP, AMS, almost total heat efficiency, great chassis design with amazing survivability.

When it's all going wrong I take my baby out for a spin. What's yours?

Well, if you need a 95 ton mech to move at 75 Kph, hefting around a 52.6 damage hitscan alpha strike in 0.6 seconds, the WubShee is the mech to do that.

It can carry teams very well, on a cool map. Hotter maps make it a fun challenge, but still very capable.

Sometimes though, you just need MOAR WUB.

Atlas-D-DC | AC-20/2LL/3xSRM4+Artemis/ECM |STD 325
Hunchback-4P | 5/6 Medlas 2/4 SL |STD 275
JM6-DD | 2 UAC-5/4MG/2 ML | Std 250

Seems like no matter when or where I use these, I always get good results, and at least 1 kill.

Base load out Timber wolf S. The SRMs make me feel cheap, but they let me rip through metal like paper.
Though I also really love my K2, 2 Er large lasers, 2 large lasers, and 2 machine guns. Easy to use, rips up mechs, and runs pretty fast.

Hunchback 4G! Classic, straight to the point, in your face 'Mech. Pretty much stock AC20-3xML build. Surprisingly effective too.

My Timberwolves are starting to end up as a 'crutch' 'Mech, though, since they can load so many different build types. Ballisitcs? Check. Long range LRMer? Check. Laser boat? Check. SRM brawler? Check. Been trying to avoid it though, because even though it's not 'OP' IMO, it does feel like it can do pretty much what most of my other 'Mechs can do and sometimes better.

For me, that would be the Catapult-K2.

In no way is it a "crutch". But, it is both what I am best with and my favorite. It can't seem to improve it or find anything better. It's like, a perfect happy medium for me. Just the right balance of speed, agility, armor, and firepower. It also, gives me the flexabilty to change tactics during a match.

It's optimum range is around what I would call a "mid-range" (around 400m-500m). But, it can work very well at close or long range. Almost, heat neutral with short range weapon group. Very long reach with the other.

Ilya Muromets. Now that jump jets and ppcs are comparitively rubbish it's on a pretty even playing field. I build it around an AC20 and STD300. Usually have medium lasers, a PPC and machineguns for backup.

When I'm tired of bullshit I get in my Kit Fox, ECM 2 ERLL 2 MG, tends to work out fairly well and fairly consistently.

If the Kit Fox is not doing it (say I'm lighting up targets and supporting but nobody wants to push or secure kills) then a swap to my Dire Wolf tends to work.

Must admit my Ilya is a long time favourite, only pushed aside after the Phoenix mechs.

Nice wide range of mechs. Keep them coming :)

My crutch mech? It would have to be the AWS-8Q, god I love that mech. If I'm having a tuff run I'll jump into it for a few matches and will instantly start having a better night. I try to start and end each night of drops in that mech.

The 8Q is fit up with 4xLPL and 1xSPL for the lols, but it is surprisingly awesome.

My Death Knell is what I fall back on when I'm on a losing streak. I usually manage around 500 damage and a few kills. The speed, the turn radius, the arm flex... 4 medlas and maximum engine that's all you need. Find the assaults or anything wounded and swoop in for the kills.

1 of 2 mechs. For kill stealing: any non-missile Sturmcrow with a TC.

Or for all around flexibility and ability to 1v1: STD Griffin with 3 ASRM 4 and 2 ML.
