I often like to login and then immediately alt-tab to do something else while the game loads. The problem that I have been facing for at least a couple of patches now is that this causes the entire screen to crazily flicker between MWO and my desktop. At this point the only option is to force quit the game via Task Manager.

This has been happening ever since UI 2.0 and the full screen MechLab. Graphics drivers updates and patches have had no effect on this.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Steps to reproduce:
1. type login details
2. click connect
3. when full screen program appears, press alt-tab

Are you running MWO in fullscreen or full window mode ? DX9 or DX11 ?
Switch around and see it it still happens.

Just test and it does it on full screen for both DX9 and D11. It doesn't do in under Windowed mode.
I tried waiting a minute or two and I think once it's passed the initial loading screen it seems to work fine, but sometimes has graphics bugs in the mechlab.

I'm running MWO fullscreen in DX11, and this occassionally happens to me, too, albeit not regularly. Have to figure out the exact circumstances yet ...

However I can end this with CTRL-ALT-DEL and then going back to MWO normal (without killing MWO over the Task manager).

Just so you guys know I figured out what the issue is with this... Were you runnin TeamSpeak at the time? After extensive trouble shooting after having it happen to me I have found it to actually be something tied to the TeamSpeak3 client. If the TS3 client is not fully open and I alt-tab back into MWO it flickers like crazy for me and I have to ctrl-alt-del to open the task manager to get it to stop so I can get the TS client on screen. When the TS client is open I never have the issue. It started for me with the last TS update. Worth checking out on your end. GL.

Same problem here. It depends WHEN I alt-tab out. Doesn't matter if teamspeak is running or not.

Seems pretty consistent if I alt-tab either (A) while the mechlab is loading after initial log-in or ( B ) during the black-screen right before the map loads and before the team rosters are displayed.

Have to cntrl-alt-del to get out of it once it starts.

I have team speak installed, but not running. Alt-Tabbing works in every other case for me, it only happens (and always happens) when I do it just after logging in and the app first goes full screen. Swapping to "full window" seems to be an adequate workaround for now.

I have the exact same flickering problem, only this happens to me every single time I open MWO. I am playing with fullscreen on DX11.

The one workaround that works consistently is, as someone already mentioned, to CTRL+ALT+DEL to open the task manager, leaver it open, and go back to MWO. However, this is super annoying to have to do every time I play, and it even went away the patch before last before coming back, which bugs me twice as much.

Also, since I have been having the flickering issue, I have been getting the MWO cursor on screen during matches about 50% of the time, which I did not experience before. These two bugs might be related.

I used to not alt-tab, but since I've started shutting down dwm.exe and explorer.exe to save some performance for MWO, I've been alt-tabbing into the game right around the time the mechlab is loading up and very often get this flickering effect. No TS involved. And I do also get the texture glitches about half the time as well and these actually persist when I drop in game as well. DX9 full screen, Win 7. Never had the persisting cursor issue, though.

Having the same issue. It seemed to happen right after I installed some Windows updates for my Win 7 OS. At the same time, I updated to the latest nvidia video drivers, so not sure if either of these updates were the culprits or not, but hard to tell which one, if either.

Anyone ever find a solution or exact cause of this issue? Its very annoying because I use my left ALT button for my TS key bind, so every time I talk in TS now, my game flickers like crazy. The only way I can fix it is by going into Fullscreen mode, which is also annoying because I use duel monitors and it defeats the purpose of having the continued desktop so I can easily move my mouse from the game to my other monitor to quickly web browse, run other applications, TS, etc.

This.

Full windowed mode is alot less glitchy when alt tabbing, but it helps to have some kind of program running on your taskbar to switch to when you do it.

I keep Notepad up at all times when I play MWO because its low mem footprint, otherwise I have to use CTRL-ALT-DELETE to get to Task manager first so I can bring up the taskbar and get to my browser or whatever.

This did fix the issue for me, though I never did bother to try Full Screen on my new rig
