Look by default you are simply not going to be able to use at least 50 percent of your premium time due to work and sleep. Then on top of that most players I would wager waste an additional 50 percent of the remainder due to not always knowing when they can play. I literally lost a whole month of my 90 day Masakari package premium time due to unforeseen circumstances on top of having work and sleep all the other days (for which I'd REALLY like a refund), that just straight up isn't fair. Yes, I understand PGI isn't really obligated to give us anything, however in the long run, enacting player friendly policy keeps players around, there is such a thing as "goodwill" that has measurable economic benefits. Furthermore, as the obvious power-creep of clan mechs and their heightened prices, plus all the new modules we are expected to grind for.......I just cannot fathom why PGI wouldn't consider a premium system that functions on a per-match basis as opposed to a real-time basis so that players who are willing to actually pay the often outrageous prices in this game can enjoy all these new things. I know others have stated a desire to allow users to turn on and off the premium time, but I think a "premium matches" system that can still run consecutively (allowing PGI to make money and to still force players to buy or win more) but also by default allow players to only use it when they actually play. I would make a poll but frankly I assume that there won't be much opposition to this idea, I would rather have people critique my thoughts or to flesh out a more specific model for cost/premium match or whatever.

1: You spend MC to buy a pack of say 100 premium matches

2: Once you activate that bundle the next 100 matches or whatever you play are premium.

Simple. No need for switching anything on and off, you choose when to activate your bundle and when you do, even if all of a sudden you can't play for a while, that bundle is still waiting and active for you.
