LOL, that made me remember a match last week when a Marik player said something along the lines of "purple bird eats green bird for breakfast"

That just made me smirk. Just like every-time I kill a player with a clan wolf flag....

It's also worth mentioning that Wolves Khan at the time is the abomination trueborn son of Katherine and Victor Steiner-Davion. He's planning on taking the whole Steiner Alliance into his fold. He's has already laid claim to the Archonship due to his lineage, and plans to just swallow up the FWL at his convenience. The whole backstory on him is so squicky.

mid to mid-late 3100s i assume?

So as someone who has never read anything pre-clan invasion did they have to retcon her character to fit into the new storylines?

They might be a little hard to find, but I've still got all the books from the '80s-'90s. The "Star League" book is good backstory...tells how the Star League came about, the Amaris coup and Kerensky's exodus.

Then you've got the actual sourcebooks...Clan Wolf, Clan Jade Falcon, The Invading Clans, The Crusader Clans....those all give pretty good history of each clan, more or less, from the time of the Exodus to the Invasion. Pretty good reading.

Setting: 3038-3058, with a big focus on 3052.

Gameplay: 3068-3078 has some interesting stuff.

The story went straight to hell around the time the Civil War happened and got hilariously terrible with Dark Ages, but the toys, at least, were neat.

The majority of the books I read were the ones written from the late '90s to the early '00s. When I was in Afghanistan in '02 a lot of people were donating stuff to us and eventually so many books were donated our FOB made a little makeshift "library tent" and someone donated a very large number of the contemporary BT books of the time.

I read all that were there whenever there was downtime which was mostly when we got our turn for "perimeter guard" so had a 4 on/4 off schedule wihtout having to be available for QRF or details. Most were FedCom Civil War stuff and a few were post-3052 clan stories but I enjoyed them all. I had seen MW4 Vengeance at a friends house but his computer wasn't powerful enough to run it at the time so we couldn't play it really. The books really got me interested in MW4 so one of the first purchases I would make after getting back was a good computer and all the MW4 games, expansions, packs, etc. I love the clans and their lore and am really only interested in playing as them (blame MW2 being my intro to the franchise) but I do enjoy the Davion family story as well. I always side with them in MW4 Mercenaries.

I remember the "Codes and Procedures of the Warrior Caste" MW2 instruction manual being pretty cool and detailed with quotes from The Remembrance and Kerensky throughout. I've been scanning amazon lately for some older BT books and TROs and maybe I'll see if I can dig one of those up as well.

So basically due to the games and BT literature I've been exposed to 3049-3067 is really it for me. I don't care for what comes after as it all sounds rather silly but with all the praise I hear for the earlier timeline stuff I think it definitely warrants a look.

I have always been fond of 3025, I feel the tech is more balanced.

3025.

The clan introduction in the 90s was such a blatant cash grab by FASA (who has since apologized for their F**k Up) that it was sickening. Also, it took BT from the gritty balance it had into some realm of weaboo manga BS for roleplaying larpers.

In a word:

3025-3049. Either base tech or the recovery of some Star League tech, but once the Clans show up, it's all downhill from there.

I kinda like all time periods, though the Clan invasion era (3050 - 3061) is my favorite.

I started with the Refusal War, so I was a bit late to the party when compared to the 3025 crowd.
I understand why many people are pissed at Clan tech, though I suppose that is also mostly due to the fact that way too many munchkins abused it.

The Clans can be great fun if played correctly.
