This has been brought up before. The checkbox does not automatically apply your password when you visit the site on a fresh connection. It is designed to allow you to remain connected so long as you an active session ID through a window that has not timed out or returning to the site in the same internet connection frame (window). Basically: so you don't have to log in again if you close the only site tab you have open or navigate away from this site.
More info and probably better stated from a company source:

tynaiden seems to have answered the question but just for sake of completeness, I check this site a lot with my iPhone and can confirm that Safari has the same issue.
F*cking annoying but I can't see this as being a priority for the the devs.

Otherwise the forums is absolutely superb, probably the best forum I've used, you can just scroll down and get more posts, replying is easy, you get message on your screen when someone posts on a thread which is open and you can refresh. Absolutely superb. But it seems the remember me button doesn't work because of security... Dunno why really... Only thing I know it prevents is if someone browses the public forum and then decides suddenly to leave and doesn't logout so someone else can use their account or something... really odd

Getting sick of login on all games. We have to do it frequently.
I want a system where we can download an icon or even a URL which automatically logs us in and requires it to be used on IP address registered within our account plus MAC address.
So a specific key being used from a giving IP address and MAC. No typing just one click on a link or double click an icon on the desktop.

It's a forum setting. All they need to do is separate the forum log in from the web log in. If it satisfies their comfort level have the web page continually require log in (though please remove the check box (and understand that there are plenty of places that maintain a log in securely - it's on the user to not check the box if on a shared location IMO)) and have the forum be a separate log in (same log in info) that can stay logged in.

The "Keep me Logged in" checkbox seems to be working about as well as the "Pending" Status indicator for me. Hmmmmm.....

it has been broken for a long time now, and to be honest, i would like them to put resources on finish the game sooner, than to fix the login on the website.

I assumed this issue was browser specific. Apparently not.

What I do is right click the Login link and open it in a new tab. When in a new tab it has my username and password saved and I just log in from there. Still not keeping me logged in but saves me the typing.

Firefox. It keeps me logged in forever if I keep a tab open on this website. But if I drop this tab and load it again later, my login is gone.
