no i dont agree. while i fully support MWO and its dev team, you dropping money on this project only puts you in the statistic of consumer who will purchase . thats the same statistic as someone who watches a commercial about tampons and runs out to buy them. if you want to make the game better and contribute to the cause, you need to go out the door and talk to the masses personally.

So I guess no one here has gone to game stop and pre-ordered a game that they never have played or "a product based on video and artwork" . I have been waiting on a new mech game since the the mech 4 days and the way I look at the founders this is not a free mech not a bonus to exp but a pre order for a game that I may or may not like. It's just a risk you take. For instance I pre-ordered Modern warfare black ops and hated it, but it still I put the money up gambled and lost. I just think of it as playing in lottery sometimes you buy a ticket and win and sometimes you buy one and lose.

I've been doing this with The Heavy Metal Pro programs since 2000! I bought the first program then paid to be a Beta tester of the future games by purchasing the game while in development. I also did it for the XP boost, and upgrade credits!

Yes, pre-ordered a game at Gamestop for...$5. $120 is a big deal and I only did it because it's Mechwarrior...

Sorry, I have to disagree with this sentiment. do you buy a tv to support that companies research ?.
I don't, I pay money for the best product that fits my needs. Same with games. You're not supporting the devs.
you're supporting Piranha who hired the devs. I'll but a founders pack. Not because of some idealistic idea about supporting
devs, but because I think it is a good deal to kick start a new game off with, no problem risking a few bucks on a new game. We do it every time we buy one.

The game will rise or fall on it's on merits. If it's good, Piranha will earn income from happy customers. if not, well ...
Good game, opens wallet. poor game, moving on down the line. This is realism in gaming.

While like WoT, This game will not follow the same tech tree and tiering system. In WoT most of the tech was up for grabs and at the discretion of the devs. But with Battletech there are allot of rules that predate the game. And the developers are following the games rules. So and AC/20 WILL and always will do 20 damage. A Gauss Cannon will always do 15 damage...etc etc etc. Not allot of nerfs when you are dealing with absolutes.

As for WoT...you think the Germans are bad? Play the American tree...but hey it is a game so...what ever, I play to have fun not to make it my life.

At the end of the day, those who can afford it, and want to afford it, pay the money. Those who think otherwise, do not.

There are ideological benefits (support something you love), and digitally tangible benefits (extras available in game) that may guide such a decision. And likewise, there are ideological(should not pay for a product not owned or tested) and economic(price; risk and return of investment) detractors which also influence the same decision in the negative.

At the end of the day however,it is an OPTION.

Not a requirement.

And as an option, you have been given leave to pay an amount you deem appropriate to support the game, which at the current moment ranges between $120 and $0.

The discourse which complains about such as a dilemma (and now pervades the forum) is an immature and futile one. There is no issue. And to those who think there is, grow up: we live in a capitalist world and as the OP said, we put our money where ever we feel we must - whether it be into this game, something entirely different, or nowhere at all.

+ over 1.5 nearly 2 years i paid for world of tanks ... premium account yeah i even got 2 premium tanks
only to get everything nerfed to ground YEAH i played german tech tree
bullshit russian devs

I played WoT from beta almost, got Lowe and mini Maus and I didn't notice any changes on Lowe (actually it performs a bit better as it doesn't catch fire so often as when he was release) ; mini Maus was nerfed hard because he was invincible in lower tiers, but I still find it a very pleasant tank to have fun with in lower tiers.
Also russian tanks were superior to other tanks of that time, but I'm generaly sick of all that russian bias people mention 24/7, I have been in lots of different tanks and enjoyed driving almost every one.

cause of all of this im very very carefull where to spend my money

i agree its great someone finnaly making another mech warrior game

but to many things are in the dark ...... its about 1.5 months till the early access starts and many things can chnge

120$...... i can get 2-3 fullprice games for that , not to forget that if they balance c-bill xp like world of tanks is doing since 1 year you need a premium to dont end up with negative c-bill when you play heavy/assault

and thats another i say 10 euro a month
+
not knowing what will be in the story maybe something like fire exec.(world of tanks) or premium ammo

if they go the same way

like i said at start im one of the idiots who want an madcat and im pretty sure it will get premium cause its awesome mech that everyone wants

As everyone in here mentioned this is not pre- purchase option, it's more like kickstart option and is based purely on your good will to put some trust into developers, but you don't have to invest anything , it's your right and choice. Most people will anyway wait for opportunity to play it before they pour some money into it (if they like it ofc) , it's also only natural playing safe that way, after all money doesn't grow on trees with recesion hitting hard this days in Europe.

I can understand people who didn't buy into this game. They want tangibles. Since they are not in beta they don't get the tangible game. Sadly not every game will make it out of beta with out help. I saw this first hand with MPBT. We had a strong community that if given the opportunity and help from the devs we could have had an awesome game. I feel that with MWO we are given a second chance. The founders pack is my vote in whether the game gets made. We did not have the opportunity to support MPBT and show that it can be fun and a profitable enterprise and personally I want this game to succeed so that M$ and EA can see what they lost. My 120$ vote was well worth it. The mechs the founder title the extra cbills that was all a bonus.

To those of you who paid $120 for a gold emblem under your avatar, best of luck.

Each to their own, I paid because I want to see the game succeed and because I wanted the benefits offered by doing so. I see it as a win win, but that's just me.

As for the emblem, I honestly wouldn't mind an option to turn it off /shrug, I hate gold as a color lol.
However some people will want that as part of the reward and that's fair enough as well.

Haven't you noticed how "only the ones without a founders program badge" have negative criticism against the idea of paying beforehand, to revive a franchise we all thought was dead? ummmm.... interesting.

I want to see this succeed. I've greatly missed Mechwarrior. $120 is a night of drinking, so I'm not really sweating the cost.

I agree. The best way for game consumers to "vote" is to support the kinds of games we like. Even if we dont get to see them first.

That's why Kickstarter is such a cool website. The ability to put your money into games we actually wont vs being forced to buy the crap that gets regurgitated with new eye candy year after year. While I'm not traditionally a PVPer, I'll support MWO because I love Btech and miss having the games to play.

The reason I payed? For a long while us in the forums have thrown at the devs "Shut up and take my money!" Now that they are taking it, how could I not make good on my demands?
I love BattleTech, and from what I've seen and heard, this game will be awesome. I was planning to pay at least $60 as soon as it was possible, before the announcement of the Founder's program. Then they announced the great $60 deal, and that reserved cash's fate was sealed. My only regret is they didn't announce the Legendary pack sooner, since I've not had the time to save up enough to get it right away...But hey, there's an upgrade option for later.

I am still on the fence over getting a founders pack I highly doubt I will get legendary since it is quite a hefty price tag for me personally. It is not like we all have to decide today if we think the game is worth shelling out 30, 60, or 120 dollars on it. The founder pack sale is on till august I believe so you have until then to see all the new things they are adding. I am sure there will be new and exciting game play videos for you to watch as well. Use this time to learn whatever you can about the game and then decide.

Happy with the $60 option. 1 Mech (catapult) to start will be good. Love battletech, and can't wait to play the cryengine 3 mechs!!
