from time to time the weapon groups on some of my mechs reset for some reason.
usually, all weapons are assigned to 1 with sometimes one being put on another number

here are some of the mechs it frequently happens to and what groups they are assigned to:

CTF-2X: all assigned to 1 (AC10, 2x ml, srm4, lrgl)
CPLT-C1: 2xLRM15, 2xml, ERPPC assigned to 1, 1 ml assigned to both 3 and 4
CDA-2A: all assigned to 1
COM-2D: ml assigned to 2, 3x streaksrm to 1 (the opposite of how i want it grr)

and so on

certain mechs seem unaffected though (like my STK-3F, TDR-9S,...)

It's a known issue and been around for a while now, sadly.
Some 'mechs share their weapongroups, using one causes the other to lose/change its.

Not sure if it's the same 'mechs for everyone or if it's specific 'mechs for specific players. No confirmed workaround(except for finding out wich 'mechs share and then not using one of them) or fix yet.

Some people claimed it helped to delete their weaponsgroups.xml or making sure it was not read-only, though.

It turns out it is not a shared MechID after all. it is the game incorrectly saving information to a different MechID than it intends to.

I just discovered that when I was saving the weapongroup information for one of my 'Mechs, it was saving to the weapongroup information assigned for a different one. I thought that they were both sharing the same MechID. Except after six tries it finally saved to the correct unique MechID.

All I can recommend is to save the weapongroup information a dozen times or so. Eventually the game should get it right.

Mind you, as soon as you change the loadout on any of your 'Mechs, the problem might just come back. But it's nothing a few thousand wasted hours of work on the part of the collective player base can't solve... for a week or two at least.
