I just noticed, part of that lack of sense of scale is the cockpits. They feel too big when compared to the surroundings. It's like the devs made our cockpits like 3-4x too big.

Now, I get giving us a fish bowl view so we can take in the vast world around us...but the cockpit scale makes everything else look small and appears as if the cockpit is just 10-15ft up.

Or maybe it's me.

Yeah, unfortunately we never got those to work correctly in MWLL either as I recall. Was always planned though. Such a shame!

FlyingDebris is awesome. I remember a lot of kudos for the cupholder from the other devs. I don't think these have ever been put out on the web (sorry to FD if I shouldn't have)...it was all part of NDA stuff that is no longer relevant.

FD does Battletech contract art for books, etc., even for well-known authors. Per my understanding did the original concepts for MWO as well. More cool stuff is over at http://flyingdebris.deviantart.com/.

+1 cockpit love. Something mwo has done really well.

I like the shawk and hunchback for the obstructed views. Like a real machine where compromises were made.

I love the catapult cockpits. The atlas reminds me way to much of the awsome that was TIE Fighter. One of the best old school lucas arts space games ever.

Yup.
Most (if not all) cockpits are actually larger than the ones on the model.
Don't ask me why, cause i do not know.

#1: King Crab. Great visibility, looks intimidating even from the inside (let me put my ANGRY eyes on) and those cockpit glass reinforcement thingies are awesome.

#2: The Awesome. Barn door mech, barn door cockpit, amazing visibility with a decent FOV.
