Every so often when I crest a hill or something, my screen will flash a couple of times. Pretty obvious that this is some kind of visibility warning, but what does it mean exactly? Does it mean I'm in somebody's LOS? or that I was selected as a target? or something else?

Thanks

ps--very helpful forum

Is it the entire screen flashing?
If it is, I do not think that is supposed to be happening...

No its predictable and not a glitch, but its very subtle and easy to miss

Hmm...
I do not recall ever seeing my screen do anything like that during MWO. And my computer can do some pretty funky things when I am not paying CLOSE attention to it.

Yeah seriously I've never heard of this happening to anyone else. I'm guessing it may be a video card issue or something, but I'm 99.9% sure it's NOT a feature.

Is it at all similar to this but white and without text?

This was a bug back in the day.

The only other thing I can think of is the bloom error in Arma 2 (DayZ Mod), where certain video card drivers would cause rapid flashes of white and black whenever you entered the shade or looked directly at the sunlight. Are your video drivers up to date and what is your video card?

no the game screen flashes twice rapidly, no static or glitching, its just like, somebody in the room hitting the flash on their camera fast

easy to reproduce with a SDR-5V, just climb on top of a high structure and ... flash-flash... pretty obvious that its a subtle indicator of some kind

i'll try to get a video

As can be seen here

And in this older one (from back when you were given alerts for when targeted)...

(You will hear: "Warning! Targeted" whenever anyone puts me under their crosshair).
Nothing flashes when targeted.

I noticed (when enemy missiles are coming in close to me) the AMS system causing a real bright white flash that flickers like a strobe light on the ground near me. It's a bit weird 'cause it never did that before. I'd just hear the zipper sounds when not looking at it or if I'm able to see the AMS I can see the streaking anti-missile fire but the strobe light effect wasn't there before. Might be a new feature?

It might be somebody else' AMS, I dont use it much (deprivation works better)

Maybe its BAP telling me something, I use BAP a lot, almost every build

Bap doesn't tell you things, however.

Just thought of another cause.
Do you have AMS?

Example: A Commando with AMS will see the AMS flashing in your face. Spiders have this problem too.

The consistent nature does leave that cause to be a bit questionable.

Here's a building Spider.

Another.

You definitely need to get pictures and video of this, Ursa, especially if you say you can always repro it.

(sorry for the low quality, I'm using cheap stuff)

13 sec one flash, 18 sec two flashes, inside the cockpit and nobody near me so its not AMS

it is not keyed to incoming missiles

pretty sure it is when somebody clicks my mule

I have more

Still looks like some kind of graphics error to me.

There's a sound that accompanies those flashes too, like new target within sights.

But I've never noticed anything like that before.

You should forward this on to support@mwomercs.com and ask them about it.

Once you notice it, you notice it happening all the time, especially when you stumble into an enemy lance flash-flash-flash-flash like everybody on the other team is targeting your dorito

Yeah, that's not the same white flash from AMS but the color of the flash that show up in your cockpit look to be the same color as the missiles that are flying towards you. What are your graphic settings set to? Are they all on Very High or do you have a custom setting? If it's a custom setting, which ones do you have set to what?

Mostly all on low settings

I am pretty sure it happens without missiles too, will have to pay more attention
