Remember ammo explosions? I wish those would come back. I don't think it's just me that thinks when a mech goes bye-bye, it's not very dramatic.

Just look at how good it used to look:

That's very true... I posted in that too, but I feel so enthusiastic about ammo explosions that I felt it deserves its own post.

It's not just about generally better graphics, like the other post seems to be focusing on. For me, the thing that's missing the the big, key, eye popping graphics that came up in some instances. It doesn't take much, but it has a huge impact.

We don't have dramatic effects when a mech dies. No fusion reactor blast, no big earth-shattering boom, just a big hunk of dead metal that falls down. You'll have to forgive me if I think that ammo explosions were the best part of the visual impact of destroying a mech, and every time it happened was a huge thrill.

Ammo explosions deserve much more press.

Especially because some mechs just sort of slump together and stay standing when they die. If they're moving at full speed, you'll get some cool ragdolling. But very often, there's just a puff of smoke and sparks, and they stay on their feet.

Funnily enough, it's easy to use this fact to your advantage, as you can just power down when you've lost a limb, and people think the smoke means you're dead. And then... you wait.

Ammo explosions have always seemed lacking to me. They should be blinding and damaging to mechs that are standing to close to the explosion.
Really miss the helix artemis Lrms. They were just so awesome looking.
