Bought the Msakari package a couple months ago and finished leveling up through the Summoner today. My impression of Clan mechs by and large (Kit Fox up through Summoner), is that they're rubbish. Well, maybe that's too harsh. They're very, VERY marginal. A good pilot with a very well tuned load out can perform well in any of them, but that's due to pilot skill. Give them to a new or average pilot and the performance of any or all of those mechs will be below average. Well below average for some of them, like the Nova and the Summoner.

Yes, I know some of you can do well in those mechs. Please don't bother to post. We already know you're a good pilot. You could probably do well in any mech.

Today I played my first match in the Mad Dog. I had to adjust the load out to get the heat under control, but I was very impressed. It is a way better quality design than any clan mech between the Kit Fox and the Summoner. It can take a reasonable mix of weapons without monkeying with OmniPods. What's better, it CAN TAKE HITS!

I don't know why, whether it's hit boxes or something else, but all the clan mechs I've leveled up so far can take two to three solid hits (not glancing hits, but solid hits) before they go down in a heap. The Stormcrow is a bit better. It can take three or four hits. The Mad Dog is an entirely different animal. There is some sort of combination of hit boxes and armor that lets you get in and brawl without running for your life after taking one hit because you know the next one will kill you. No. The Mad Dog can take it as well as dish it out.

What a nice surprise! It also gives me hope that the next package of Clan mechs might, just might be better designs - more fun to play - than the mechs in the Masakari package.

Yes, I know, the Timberwolf and Direwolf are better that the rest of the Masakari package. I'm excluding those from this discussion.

So....thanks PGI!

Funny, I saw lots of post saying the Mad Dog is too fragile because STs are made of glass or something. But hey, if you can make it work in brawls then good for you.

well personally i think most clan mechs are pretty fragile in the ST's I personally like the maddog, but that being said it is a very LIGHT heavy brawler and about any kind of brawler build you can put on one you can do the same on a timberwolf and it would be a more durable mech.

Of the 4 you have played prior to your Mad Dog, only the Kit Fox is any good and then only if you can step outside the box and think of it as a support mech rather than a hunter/killer like alot of IS lights are.

The Nova was decent until the heat nerf made virtually every decent build too hot and the Summoner has always lacked something (personally I think it just needs a few hard points added to the Omnipods). That being the case, you are right, the Clan mechs you have play are kind of rubbish.

However, once you get to the Timber Wolf, Stormcrow and Dire Wolf you will change your tune, those mechs are actually in the good to very good category and the Warhawk is at least above average.

Kit fox is awesome
Mount ECM/3AMS and stay with your team doing nothing a bang you are invaluable Anti radar/Anti LRM shield. Far more valuable from the Dire Wolf loner that thinks he can take on the world and dies in 10seconds
