It can go much longer then that. More then 10 minutes. Unless, they reduced the cut off for it to just cancel and say "Failed to find match".

I would gladly take a 5 minute search instead of a 20 second one where my team gets rolled because MM decides its time to lose

Someone must be trying to play an assault during a weekend when everyone is playing assaults...yes, let's blame PGI for this. It's not like the MM gives you a percentage of who's playing what or anything to let you know queue times may be slow on some weight classes...
