Listening to Russ during town hall last night while playing MWO I was struck with an idea.
What if we had a radio we could toggle in game?
First off It wouldn't just be music, but that would give the sound department work if they don't have any. Then it would have several different channels that would be switchable or all squished together.
PGI could have a channel for up and coming content and contests like what is here on the home page, and it wouldn't be live because not every one is on all the time.
One channel could have lore based news that would be happing around the time line like clan sightings or famous people and military developments.
Then there could be one more channel (Possible merged with the PGI news one) that advertised new mechs coming off the production line, and also giving were they are mainly produced/distributed,based on lore of course!

Greetings,
If your looking for a 'News' channel radio, then there needs to be scripts created, hiring a news reader or just voice talent, editing each production, plus all the additional items required within the Ui to actually have it present. And it needs to be produced very fast to keep up with the rapid changes we see week to week.
(an excellent time to look at hiring George Ledoux (the Duncan Fisher voice) for small voice news events.)
It would be interesting to have a 'ticker tape' style message board scroll across the back of the MechLab when your there.
- displaying types of messages like your referencing.
- possibly different for each Faction or Merc unit, battle assessments, border conflicts and contracts. This eliminates the required voice content but requires additional Ui code and art elements.
Having music is a very tricky element, with copy-write and $ required if any outside authors product is included.
(royalties for each time played)
- An aside, I would like to have some background 'battlefield' radio traffic heard in the cockpit while the fight happens.
- example, all the other forces and arms carrying out there battles. (background comms)
- possibly with a volume and on/off control?
Unless there is radio silence present, there is always comms traffic with any military force. Even if it's not your unit, you never fight alone.

This is one of those suggestions that would actually be better done by the playerbase. In a way, we are already doing it with things like twitch streams and podcasts.
I know roflwaffle was doing something to that effect with Warroom News Update on his youtube channel, but no one I am aware has a regular IC news broadcast.
The best execution would be a player directed project with advice and support from experienced content creators. I know smaller subcommunities who would LOVE coverage of their tournaments, events and groups in addition to coverage of the bigger known events. We could use the old ISN news feeds as a starting point.
We could start with one weekly show and expand to regular programming depending on how many people are interested. If we are going to insist on IC, then we definitely need to work out terms of reference so everyone is on the same page.
I would totally be up for helping to write for a project like this and scratch my lore itch.
If you are interested, please message me.

As cool as this sounds, it would be a lot of work and require more data streaming on the servers. ( we don't want to tax the servers too much otherwise the gameplay quality goes down).
