Well, it depends on the mech. For some mechs, I'll try to watch my KDR, just because it's a kind of a personal challenge and the achievement system in this game really doesn't work like it should.
I kinda get that, but to me, that's kinda artificially inflating it, too. Just my opinion, not some hard rule to live by, but the only Mech KDrs that matter to me, are ones I wan't to know were as "clean" as possible.

I often deliberately overheat and die if I'm in my PPC Warhawk and we're about to get stomped anyway. I don't mind going down like that, if there's a chance I can take a few extra mechs with me.

1) You would need a lengthy set of "conditions" to allow for it. (When is it allowed? Without parameters, you would get people seeing Terra Theram, or LORDS on the other team, or a bunch of Trial Mechs on theirs, and simply ejecting to find a more favorable match. So what limiters are on it to prevent griefign the team that way?)
I already adressed this issue, Bishop. No weapons. I.e. all weapons are either destroyed or out of ammo. That's not a lengthy set of parameters. They already have the code to check for this, because you can't drop in a mech without weapons (same as no engine).
I guess mechs without energy weapons could just empty all ammo at the start of the match and eject, but that would be the same as all other griefing. The same people can just run and hide and disconnect right now, to save their KDR.

If you have teammates left, yeah. That's true. Although sometimes you're a Victor running around without weapons, and your only remaining teammate is a Raven 3L with 2 ER LL's, who could not give a flying fudge, because he's busy sniping on the other side of the map. In that case, I'd like to just crawl back to base or eject, instead of deliberately suiciding.

Also, I wouldn't play Conquest even if PGI paid me to do so. You can't really contribute much if you have to stand on a square for 3 minutes for something to happen. While broadcasting your position to the enemy.
Well, truth be told, if they already neutered you, IMO they kinda earned the kill, it's not exactly a freeby.

I agree, sometimes you bring in that energy weapon, and it gets destroyed. There was a reason I didn't like many of the Griffins (except for the 3M), that energy arm got blown off a little too easily. (Like a Centurion's ballistic arm...)

If you think your build is so great that it can't drop a ton for ml or a 1/2 ton for a small laser you are probably not as smart as you think you are.

Don't get me started on our "amazing Light Snipers", taking the teams ECM and running off to play the epeen stat game. Almost Never actually contribute to the win (note I say almost, as some have actually bird dogged the enemy into splitting as part of the plan, etc), but in truth, 90% of the players I see in these are the epitome of the CoD player mindset polluting this game. (God I wish this actually had become an immersive thinking man's shooter/lite-Sim instead of a slow mo FPS)

Well, sometimes. Or at least some of them may have taken out my energy weapons and the rest of them survived long enough for me to run out of ammo, for example. But that's not really my point.
If asked "what pleasure do you derive from surviving the match", my retort would be "what pleasure do you derive from destroying an unarmed mech?". Why are you (hypothetical) determined to go looking for someone who can't resist?
And speaking of padding one's KDR, I think we've all seen that greedy ******* diving in front of teammates to take out a disarmed Atlas DDC zombie, even when he did nothing towards disarming him. Just to pad his stats. So it goes both ways.
EDIT: Full disclosure, I've done it myself, sometimes. But I generally try to resist the urge.

My bad, copy-paste malfunction. And yeah, same here. The Griffin with 4 energy hardpoints in that balsawood arm, for example, is just ridiculous.

Now if we still had repair and rearm, that would be a different story.

If you can't muster being some sort of shield for your teammates, you will be padded to someone's K-D stat. You are for all intents and purposes "dead" unless you're some sort of armless Jenner-F running the hell away from contact.
Seriously, it's genuinely not a big deal.

Only do use the 1S in SMM, which, BTW it is rather good at.
But my 1N has them all there and still does rather well.... 90% of the time (I have been Buffy'd a few times)

Yeah, I remember a subset of players in CB, myself included who actually would allow the enemy the opportunity for surrender. Avoid the huge repair bill, and we would just cap the base. The flip side being, if they powered back up, we would give them the largest repair bill possible, write down their name and not give them the option in the future.
(Had a dude in an xl powered AS7k, it was 8v1 at this point, we were in good shape all around. He accepted terms, then powered back up and shot us in the back. We took off every limb, and every component, and gave him the worst repair bill of his life)
Ah, the chivalry of CB!

So suck it up buttercup and either go suicide or do your team a favor and act as a meat shield for someone else you shouldn't be going back to base to hide (okay maybe 1 match out of 1000 this is a good idea)
Because honestly they should NEVER allow someone to just ditch a game and get rewards just because they ran out of ammo.
Go ahead and add in a Vote to concede option that requires your team to be losing already and still require X amount of teammates to agree. No suicide.
Wow.... way to not read the entire post.... Try again, without skimming this time, and you'll find several key elements that make the story's point more clear....

eh, also, my most successful IS mech?
No lasers. No PPCs. Don't have the tonnage to make it happen, without major compromises limiting the builds viability. 4x aSRM4, 1x AC10 on my ON1-VA. I go any slower, the mech loses it's ambush ability and escapability. Got no heat sinks to sacrifice, and especially just to run hotter anyhow. Give up ammo? Seems to be counter to the concept, yes?
But since It lays out over 1400 damage before running out of ammo? If I'm out of ammo at the end of the match, chances are I have already done MORE than my share of the heavy lifting, anyhow. But since I regularly break 1000 damage, have my highest damage score (over 1300) and most kills (9) in a match in it? I guess I should redesign it and slap on a Medium Laser somewhere because some Forumite says I am a Bad.

You can still target enemy mechs and spot for LRMs.
You still have armor and can act as a soak tank for enemy fire helps if you have a laser to distract them.
You can still maneuver creating a false sensor echo or use yourself as bait for a ambush.
Bumping does do damage in some cases.
You can scout and relay enemy positions.
:rolleyes:But really you need to buy a laser.
Did you notice a Black Hole pass your location recently? Had to be a Super Massive one dude. The dense-ity meter just went through the roof.
He had Lasers in a long lost arm.

My two current favorite rides are my SHD 2H with 3xAC2s and 600 rounds, and my Jager DD with quad 2s and 975 rounds. Never underestimate reach or rapid fire. No backup weapons on either, but I'm fine with that. I knew the risks when I built them.
