I'm doing something wrong here..I'm TERRIBLE in Centurions..granted, only have 2 so no double basic bonus, and haven't even unlocked att the basics on both of them...but damn, I'm bad in them

My first Cent was the -A(C) which I got as a reward for some challenge. I ran it a few times, hated it, and didn't use if for a month or two.
It was just so hard to use, with the arms begin blown off all the time yet not enough hard points on the torso for anything but missiles (back then SRMs didn't really work, hit detection was really bad).

But then I changed it into an LRM boat (3xLRM10+A, a TAG and a MLAS with an XL235), and I was really successful. After this I bought a -D variant and put in a huge XL360 engine which I have been very successful in, and now my best variant is the -AL with 2 LPLAS in the right arm and an XL275 engine.

I think to learn the Cent you need to start off with something that is not reliant on the right arm at all, then something with small weapons in the arm, and when you gotten used to that you can move over to really relying on that right arm.

I now run my -A with a Gauss(!) in the arm and have had plenty of good games. The new -AH will by definition be very right-arm-heavy, so if you are to have any use of it you might as well practice using that kind of mech.

SRMs are extremely potent again. Anyone who first got the Centurion A from the challenge and was immediately turned off should go back to the design and tweek it and forget arm weapons. 3 SRM6 and 2 medium lasers is all you need to cause havok. CN9-A(C)

The AL is actually my favorite. I ran a few different configs on it - one of my favorite was this one:

Note you can do streaks or other SRMs just fine, I just had mine using streaks.

I also liked ditching the missiles for 2xLPL ... kind of an Energy Wang

I'm curious if I can shove 2x UAC5 on the AH and be meaningful.

I typically run mine with an XL.
CN9-A
the key is to keep people to your left. I've got my armor down to 17% at the end of a match.

CN9-A "Zombie" - CN9-A
CN9-AL - CN9-AL

These two builds are total favorites for me. Especially with the new Cooldown and Range modules. Note: My CN9-AL is slightly different from the 5 star CN9-AL (CN9-AL) as to capitalize on the sharing of mods between centurions.

Overall... The Centurion is and will always be my favorite medium mech. The way it was when I was younger to the redesign they have is just amazing... Badass overall!

When I came back after a break (from closed beta till about three months before wave 1 dropped) I bought a Wang. Took some getting used to, but the Cents are great mechs. I found on my Wang, the XLs hurt survival. I like my cents to be one of the longer lived mechs, so try to do my builds around a std 250 engine. If ammo is really loaded in the frame, think about case. If someone pops my gun arm side torso, the rest of my mech is fully unharmed from an ammo explosion.

One of the greatest strengths of the cent chassis is how well they zombie. Twist like crazy, as I remember living in a huge brawl with one leg, no side torsos, and a cherry center (lost one med laser too ><) when we finally killed the last one. You can love through some amazing stuff. I know I missed the cent's glory days, but it can still be a great mech :)

On a side note, to get elite on my Wang, I bought a D and an AL. I was less thrilled by the AL. The lack of balistics made me a sad panda :(

I have yet to try the AH yet, as I have been working on my clan mechs, and with the tourney I committed to the commando chassis (my TDK and I are stuck at 29th...). and with the crazy medium que length....
