I like the idea of unleashing the Clans on us without any in-game warning and then reflect these first encounters in ISN News Flash of the day. But I´m not sure about the third-party battle because of the fact that the direction, from where the Clanners engage the battle, would necessarily put one of the IS teams into great disadvantage - that team would be crushed from two sides.
I think it would be better to simply drop a Clan lance INSTEAD OF second IS team in some matches on that day. "Second lance, what do you see?" "I - I don´t know, sir... It looks little bit like a Catapult, but it has... aaaAAARMS!!!!"

+1 for OP

Well... its for a Star so +5!

And like the previous idea as well of a Clan Star shows up instead of the expected company of mechs...

With the size and scope of games these days it's become harder and harder, but I used to play a MUD, back when MUDs were all we had, that had such great dev driven events. Really a shame all the good MUDs have died, they were so much more in depth than modern MMOs. <sigh> But yes, I agree, dev events would be awesome.

OP, do you think encouraging PGI to troll us in game is a good idea? Welcome to the forums, lol. They already troll harder than Insane Clown Posse or whatever did in MW4. I forget what their unit name really was, but it was always "you down with the clown? honk honk!" I swear when I read one of Paul's trolls for the first time last year, I could have sworn he was a former member.

No offense to the OP here, but this is an excellent reason as to why we use the SEARCH button :(
Here is a quick list of topics covering this exact same idea.
Exact.

http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

This guy mentions the very specific idea of the devs playing http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

This guy promised an original idea...
http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

It wasn't original then and it's not original now. I understand that since our community has almost doubled in the last month that a lot of repeated conversation topics are going to come up (which is why I avoid General Discussion these days, (this also should have gone in the Clan section of the forums)) but to help alleviate the clutter of the forums lets use resources first.

The "very specific idea" link is either broken, deleted, or hidden because it returns the following error for me: "[#10340] You do not have permission to view this topic."

I tried a forum search for clan surprise, devs clan, devs drop, and clan drop a couple of different ways, and the only way I could pull up the last link ("original idea") was to search for clan drops within only the Clans forums section. I wonder what search terms were used to find the above threads. Telling noobs to go search the forum is another thing, because I feel everyone's pain on that, but the OP has 70+ posts.

Keep in mind: It is easy for someone who joined the forum a long time ago and/or checks it often, to tell people like this OP to search for pre-existing threads. For everyone else, there are things like the rapid & arguably exponential number of threads & "resources" being posted that can make searching or knowing about a topic's pre-existence far more difficult than you'd expect. With some forum branches like General Discussion showing 30 minutes or less of the latest thread activity on the first page and I can't find a way to resize number of threads shown per page, some forum branches are not easy to stay current with unless you check them really often or sift through many, many pages.

Who knows - Maybe a DBA here at PG can further improve thread indexing, searching for word variants, or make a pre-thead posting feature that searches existing threads. Until then, I'm not going to raise many pitchforks at noobs and non-hardcore gamers because they will be key to the growth (and fresh meat) in MWO

just search clans. Much easier.

And I understand with new people a lot of threads are going to be rehashed. In fact I said that in my original post. Just a friendly reminder. My apologies if it came off a bit hostile. No pitchforks were raised. Though it was really funny to see 50 people drool over this idea like it was the next best thing since sliced bread.

There can be a lot of frustration with the search function sometimes, and all forums have this problem (I blame the poor grammer in users topics). I have just seen this idea talked about A LOT so I thought I would draw attention to that fact.

Extra kudoes if the targetting system flickers between Maruader and Catapult.

I would love to see this done right, it would have to involve at least a week of practice for those involved though. Learning the proper clan speak and clan tactics. I think the difference between upsetting the entire player base and upsetting some (while giving everyone an awesome time) lies within proper adherence to zellbrigen. Sure a star of clan mechs would be hell, but at least it could be managed when the clan mechs only go 1v1 while the IS hopefully would realize the benefit of lance tactics.

Only thing with that is once the IS troops focus fire the clans are no longer bound to fire 1v1... and a star of clan omnis will scrap a mech faster than two lances of IS mechs with low tech...

Mate if people had blasted the thread instead of getting on board I would have deleted it out of courtesy, they didn't so I haven't

Since I doubt we'll be playing in the very first skirmishes, I'd assume that they'd have spread the design via HPG to all the IS units by the time we'd hear from them - would love to see it on the first few encounters though...

"Enemy Catapult to our left... no, Marauder... Oh... ****!!!"

and in actuality, I never go into the clan section.... so I'm glad to see this redone..... still like the idea (though I almost always TT'd 3025-3030), I WOULD like to see something drastic announcing the clans incursion into the IS......

Oh I'm not saying I want you to delete it either. I was just bringing up that this had been discussed. I deleted the original post because I did not wish it to cause problems. In fact I rather do like this idea of introducing the Clans.

Didn't mean to sound like I was trying to rain on your parade. Sincerest apologies.

As an added point, the only time you would have access to a Clan Mech, or even clan tech, would be if you succeeded in taking out said mech. Or if you buy it on the Black Market, it should be prohibitively expensive, and you should get a higher repair cost. Make it so the IS mechs are not only viable, but still used primarily. I would hate the game to become a Clan Game.
