At the risk of sounding whiny I wish to state a complaint. I have a friend that I play Mechwarrior with on occasion. Since the latest update to matchmaking, the queue times have drastically increased. This is because when he and I queue together, we are placed into what I have come to understand is called the "group queue". What inevitably happens is that he and I are placed into separate lances on a Team with some people who are in the same clan, and very frequently we are pitted against an entirely pre-made team. Needless to say, the increased queue time and the reduced chance of success due to being placed in a match against an entire clan which is probably communicating in some kind of voice program is pretty ridiculous. Whereas before he and I could coordinate effectively and do some damage and occasionally win. Now we are completely wrecked by an entire coordinated opposing force. This doesn't seem fair and goes against the spirit of two friends playing casually together. I would rather forfeit the opportunity to participate on a team with a large number of grouped clan members to be able to be placed into a queue with public players again. This is just my opinion and I understand the spirit of what has been done. But it punishes small groups of players. A full lance? I can understand, but me and my friend constantly being placed in a group queue ad-infinitum? It's just totally lame. Any plans to deal with this at all? Or are we stuck playing against entire clans everytime we want to casually shoot 'em up together now? Just a frustrating change from the way it used to be.

Yes, the way it is right now small groups are at a disadvantage and it's very annoying ... especially when you get matched up against a very large group of 10 or more and your whole team consist of small groups. Your only chance to win is hoping for the large group to be ridiculously incompetent (you know... shooting each other, running out of bounds, benny hill theme song playing, that kind of incompetent).

My suggestion to fix or at least improve it:

Limit group sizes to 2-4, 8 and 12.
Have groups of 2-3 drop in solo-queue with 1group max per team.
Have groups of 4,8 and 12 drop in group-queue.

Yes, no more groups of 5-12, just 2-4, 8 and 12. Small price to pay for fairer matches.
I think that would also take a lot of stress off the MM and lead to faster searches because there are only 3 possible sizes to make up teams with. Right now it has to deal with 2s,5s,9s, etc and has to mix and match all those to get 12 people per team. Then those mixed and matched teams are pitted against each other without any semblance of coordination.
A group of 8 and a group of 4 can work together a lot easier than several groups of 5,3 and 2 AND they don't get split apart and stuck in seperate lances, giving them a fighting chance even against 12mans.

Also ditch the whole Elo-concept for group-queue. It is irrelevant anyway because communication and coordination win those matches, not raw player-skill. It just makes it unnecessarily complicated for the MM to build teams.

I'm trying not to take any enjoyment of this, but it's nice to hear that the Group queue is as messed up as the Solo queue.

The odd number thing appears to be something they're trying to get to work right so they can do the 10v12 thing....although it may have been premature in it's release. I'm just guessing here.

A lot of the problems we have over in the Solo queue are due pretty much directly to additions made for the benefit of the Group Queue....at least, that's how I'm remembering it.

The whole 3/3/3/3 thing was released for private matches (ie: group players) before it was made mainstream in the Solo queue as was the whole "average team Elo score" thing when they re-wrote the matchmaker at the Clan release (that one kind of makes sense when you've got a Lance/Star Commander that's higher Elo than the recruits he's taking into a match....not so much for those of us in the Solo Queue).

You guys are probably ok, though. Stuff that's wrong with the one steady source of income tends to get fixed pretty quick. The Solo queue...not so much.
