Hi! Currently, assuming the role of a company or lance commander provide little value in the game. I believe that for a small resource investment, we could significantly improve the strategic value of this role.

First, we should implement a ranking system. Nothing fancy. Maybe it could just keep track of your total accumulated XP and GXP. A badge with your rank would be displayed next to your name in pre- and post-game screens. Upon match start, the person with the highest rank is automatically awarded company commander. Similarly, the person with the highest rank in each lance is awarded lance commander. These individuals should have the option to resign command before the match begins.

Second, while in-game, the company commander should be able to see a big-picture inventory of his company's current offensive capabilities. Knowing, for example, how many long range vs. short range mechs are under his or her command would give the commander very important tactical information. An extensive list of every weapon system isn't necessary, perhaps just a total firepower score for each lance, as well as a firepower total for weapons with effective ranges of greater than 500m and weapons with effective ranges of shorter than 500m.

Third, from the battlemap, a company commander should be able to see the total health percentage of each lance. Not for each mech, but for the lance as a whole.
