That's something that makes a lot more sense. Besides barring skins for the sake of bandwidth, who's going to stop the one guy from using photoshop to give an atlas boobs and a cooch ripped from their favorite pornographic images?
lol, I was thinking the same thing.

I hope they'll just have a selection that we can choose from, and either pay with real $ or cbills (preferred).

That's good, because that's probably what we're going to get. A paint scheme and color editor, and maybe an emblem creator. Selling premade, elaborate skins or patterns that would be difficult or impossible to replicate with the editor will probably be a microtransaction thing.
I'm probably going to take some flak for this next comment, it's just how I feel on the subject. I hope it's not possible to install third-party skins. It cuts into the Devs revenue, and a built-in paint scheme editor is already confirmed. Put those two factors together, and I don't really see the point in allowing third-party skins.

I'm not sure some of you understand. Custom skins would be client-side only.
And after seeing the borderline cheating that people do in other games with custom skins I have to say no.

Copyright infringement does not work that way.

only way to stop third party skins is to keep the uv maps server side, isnt likely to happen because itll add load to the servers best thing they can do is reset the skins every update

That's one way to see it. Another is that limiting creativity is not going to do the game or its fans any good. I know it p!ssed me off to no end to see the WoT devs mistreat/threaten the modders and basically made it a PITA to reinstall and tweak mod files. Not that the devs did anything to the base files which made it necessary to replace them regularly. They just didn't want to give average people the chance to make the game look better without going through regular updates and some tinkering. Best expample IMO is the mod with the floating damage numbers (which I used extensively). WG successfully trolled the artist out of further committment, then implemented their own crappy version (sloppy copy and paste job) which wasn't even done right (damage numbers didn't float, they just stacked rapidly) and corrupted the whole purpose of it. Same deal with the Duke Nukem voice over. Their crew voices sucked so hard and the Duke gave the game so much flair ... they didn't like it either. I have no pleasant words for what WG did to stop people enjoying/playing a modded game.
That said I hope it doesn't set the tone because MW4 wasn't exactly mod friendly to begin with either.

I would like to see little things to add to your mech not full skin changes plus the fact that if you can re-design your mech we are just going to see people make mechs with nazi symbols on etc.

A lot of canon units are described as having "highlights" - if a developer could designate certain panels as a highlight, so that a unit designer could select colours for highlights, stripes or any other design template, before having it saved centrally for all members of that unit. Then each member of the unit could use that design template for their mech model, apply the colours (with an extra layer applying some scratches, battle damage and dirt over the top). This skin would then be saved centrally and then added with the next patch. They would then apply any specific decals (including the unit insignia and Lance/element numbers) and any individual decals that they wish, which would be added in-game.
I think that unit representatives should be allowed to submit new template ideas through official channels (for example, a specific camouflage design) which might be added through a patch, if found to be appropriate. What might also be a good idea would be someone at PGI (intern?) sitting down and eliminating all the canon unit colours, so we don't see any "Davion Guards by any other name" or the like (and hence, if PVE missions come in later, leaving them available for use).

Ah-Hem...Well if i seen that coming towards me from a distance in the darkness of night i surely would have to get him upside
down in a hurry very quickly lol, thus preventing him from "Shooting a Load" of his LRM's at me.

otherwise you´ll have wot with those ***** noob "hitbox-skins" which show exactly where to shoot to do a critical hit... plz no 8[
This is unavoidable. WoTs does not allow this yet people still mod the game so that skins appear only for them. It is not likely to be stopped completely. It will happen. I of course do not want ti though.

Faction Players
As a Faction Player, loyalty points are earned by playing and winning matches. As the player accumulates loyalty points, they will gain a military faction rank at pre-determined loyalty point totals. If a player loses LPs by decay or negative actions, they will be demoted.
Gaining ranks earns special privileges and items, including membership to special units, unit skins, and bonuses to C-Bills and XP. These are all non-permanent and subject to the player maintaining a certain rank level.

As for the skins, I look forward to what that will entail.
