I bought this game the first week founder's was available, then life happened. I'm finally back to where I can game again... but I can't install the game?

There is no error, making finding a solution via search difficult. I download the installer (~56MB) and run it. It creates the directory, patcher, etc, but when the logo appears in the middle of my screen the whole thing freezes and has to be closed by task manager.

Win7 Ultimate 64. Help.

FIX FOUND! See post #3

8/4/2013 2:07:06 PM - main - Invalid call to getRelPath() - 'Z:\PG\MWOUpdate\patchFiles\Bin32\' does not start with 'Z:\PG\\MWOUpdate\patchFiles\'

Though I was on the trail of a solution, but foiled!

FIX FOUND! For those with the same issue, the fix involves using REGEDIT which is very dangerous to your computer if used improperly. Tread carefully!

For some reason the installer was trying to use a temp directory that was incorrectly stated. The registry entry was looking for "Z:\PG\\MWOUpdate", and was causing an exception when the installer looked for it. I created a 'PG' folder on the root of my SSD dedicated for games. "Z:\PG\" is what I typed in the installer, and for whatever reason things didn't go very smoothly after that.

Simply using REGEDIT to change the key from "Z:\PG\\MWOUpdate" to "Z:\PG\MechWarrior Online\MWOUpdate\" allowed the launcher to run.

The key in question is located here, and it is named TEMPFOLDER:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Piranha Games->MechWarrior Online->Production

Hopefully PG has all the info it needs to patch the installer (or launcher, whatever got confused) to correctly generate this registry key.

=====Windows 7 Step-by-step version=====

1. Run REGEDIT from the start menu's box by typing REGEDIT, then right clicking it, and RUN AS ADMIN
2. Navigate through the folders on the right-hand pane as above by clicking the "►" sign beside them
3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER, hit the ►
4. Software, hit the ►
5. Piranha Games, hit the ►
6. MechWarrior Online, hit the ►
7. Production, LEFT CLICK this folder.
8. On the right pane now you should see a list that appear to be files.
9. Right-click the registry key ("file") called TEMPFOLDER, and click MODIFY
10. Ensure that the directory is pointing to your "MWOUpdate" folder with no double "//" anywhere in the line.
11. Re-start the installer from scratch.

Thank you Justicar, I have been trying to solve this issue for about 3 hours now. In my case the Update Folder was bad because of a simple double \\ which resulted in exactly the same behaviour you did describe. Thanks a lot for the solution!

Thank you, I am (was) in exact same situation as you, got in a Founder, then as you said life happened and now wanting to check things out, but the game would not install. Your fix fixed it for me.

Bamp

Identical symptoms to OP. Whether it's downloading for a new install or downloading a patch, the installer freezes after a few MB. It used to be able to go a couple hundred, so I originally got the game installed by constantly restarting the patcher. Now, I'm lucky if it gets 10mb downloaded before it hangs. Since the constant restarting got me a corrupted file in the latest patch, I am now completely unable to play.

I have:
Run the repair tool. It identified objects.bak as corrupt
Run the Repair Tool fixer. It started downloading the objects.bak file.
Repair tool freezes mid-download in identical way to launcher.
Did a full clean Uninstall
Downloaded installer, installed, patched.
No change in behavior.
Checked registry entry as describe above. File path was already correct.
Created a new folder, not the auto-generated one, and set the path to it.
No change.

So, I'm now locked out of the game, as far as I can tell. I really need a direct download link for the client. I tried looking for torrents but there are only out-of-date ones.

Edit: Win 7

I download the installer, start it, accept the terms and conditions, allow the program to run under system admin.. and it just sits there at "initializing"

I have done everything that was listed here, and more including uninstalling Mcafee, disabling firewall, releasing/renewing IP, flushing DNS cache, rebooted my router, performed a live sacrifice to the Mech gods, did the hokie-pokie...NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING has resolved this issue...I cannot Patch, Install..period. It tries to download, starts then fails,

"There was an error while connecting: The Operation has timed out...would you like to retry?"

I am a Veteran Founder...and can't even get the damned game to install...one pissed off gamer right here.. I need a resolution to this...it's rediculous!
