Thor / Summoner is not a bad Mech, but it is under gunned by Clan standards. Unlike a Mad Cat / Timber Wolf, that has firepower on par with most Inner Sphere Assault Mechs, Thor requires effort on a part of a driver.

As far as "bad" or "weak" mechs go:
Light: Locust - 1V & company

Medium: Nova / Black Hawk - Prime config, maybe a Vindicator

Heavy: Thunderbolt - at 65 tons there are a lot of better mechs, Quick draw and Dragon are basically Medium mechs that didn't make the weight.

Assaults: Haven't driven many, but Man-O-War / Gargoyle has the potential of taking that title from Awesome.

There are no fail mechs, just fail pilots.

I don't usually say this, but to everyone saying the Locust is the worst mech in the game, it comes down to your terrible piloting skills. It really does. I can average a good 300-500 damage in any variant, and for a 20 tonner that's quite a lot.

Different play style, and I don't mean running into the enemy team like people do with other lights. Locusts have a completely different play style and for a 20 ton mech when played right whops out insane amounts of damage.

There are "worse mechs" than the locust, but none of them are bad mechs, just bad pilots laying blame on a mech.

Practice people, practice mechs you are bad at or think are "bad". And you will find out they can be a lethal force when piloted right.

every time I see a summoner I look for a place to hide because I know the pilot is going to spam the blue cabin-rattlers

Um... no.

Try Locust, or Spider-5V. Then you'll see fail.

Well technically, since the DWF was released even these mechs have something they can kill without having to try hard :P

OP - Its no timberwolf but I get plenty of kills in my srm and ppc/gauss version so just going to call you a drama queen in desperate need of an attention fix I'm afraid. ;)

Summoner. All day long. Arguably one of the worst mechs in the game.

Spend a chunk of c-bills on it, then spend a few million more on omnipods just so you can mount your 3 lasers.

Most weapons get blown off and leave you with 0 defense.

Such a shame PGI ruined such an iconic mech by making it more worse than most lights.

Now where is that Summoner in the meta?

I didn't hate it as much as some; numerically I did better in it than a CTF ... but I didn't try to do anything crazy

Summoner got hopps like Michael Jordan, Mess around with the omnipods, its not a heavy frontline mech, its a mobile weapons platform. mount big guns and hang behind the madcat while it takes the heat, you bring the pain.

Good builds include, 2lrg pulse 2 medium pulse, 2 machine guns,
gauss 4 medium
LRM boat
STREAK boat
dual ppc, streak 6
lots of stuff works with it,

the key to this mech is mobility, play it like a huge, tanky, griffon.

+1

I do Gauss + 4 medium and 100% armor...survivability is fantastic and I average 400 - 600 damage per game, with my best being over 1100. What you say is spot on: play it like a huge, tanky griffon.

Spider 5V.

Locusts aren't that bad, I cackle absurdly as I mini-dakka all of the things in my LCT-1V, and I lovelovelove my Vindicators, but the 5V has nothing redeeming it, only bought it cause pre-hero needed three to master out the 5D. Finally got it mastered during the last double XP period, will never go back.
