if you had to say what was "the" best Clan weapon, what would you pick
I would say the Clan extended range large laser
How about the Inner sphere
that's a hard choice AC5
what do you guys/gals think

I switched to CLPL on any builds I used to use them on.
I don't know if I could pick between the CLPL and CERML......I use them together on everything they just synergize so well. CGauss is awesome too....though it is identical to the IS version save weight.
If the CERPPC had all of its damage on hit instead of the 5 splash damage it would be up there.

IS: Hard choice...ERLL is a good contender, as is the ML.
The reason I didn't list the Goose Rifle is because I'm thinking from the standpoint of only equipping one weapon on a Clan or IS mech, rather than mixing weapons (having a mech with only Goose and no backups wouldn't be the best idea). I.e. if you had to pick one gun and only one gun for the rest of your existence, which one would you pick.

For the Inner Sphere, it's a tougher choice. Before they increased its burn duration, I would have said ER Large Laser. Now, I'm inclined to say AC/10. It spits out 4 damage per second, more if you have the cool-down module, it is front-loaded, it is pin-point, and it generates no appreciable heat when fired. Its only drawbacks are being two tons shy of an AC/20 and being ammo dependent, but that hasn't been a problem for the 'Mechs I put it on (CPLT-K2, ON1-M, AS7-D/D-DC). A close second for me is the regular PPC; trade weight for heat and it's otherwise the same set of advantages.

For IS, I have to say the SRM 6 takes the cake. The high alpha damage per ton and the low weight make it viable on any weight class of mech. The limited range is a downer, but a clever pilot can close to brawling range in basically any game. The medium IS mech has this unending love affair with it.

That's it. There is no better weapon.

Light, ubiquitous, efficient, and there's about five mechs in the game that can't use it.

This would imply it's the best.
Personally, I like the LBX10 for the IS, and Medium/Large Pulse Lasers for Clans

If a Mech had exactly 1 hard point, and you had to choose which weapon to put into that point, I bet the answers in this thread would change considerably.
The reason that Medium Lasers are so popular is because they are easy to boat - but if you only had one weapon, I doubt many people would jump on the ML as being the go to weapon of choice. More likely it would be AC20, or Gauss.

If I could have only 1 weapon then no way would it be a ballistic.
CLPL or CERPPC in that scenario.

Preferably an Energy Weapon at the very least.
But that's not really the 'best' weapon, that's a very specific re-structure of the paradigm, effectively making it a completely different question.

Since the average engagement range isnt 800-900m, but instead around 200-500m, that 525m range is more then adequate. The LL does 10dmg and 10 heat while the CLPL deals 10.6 or 11 dmg for 9 heat. In addition, it's duration is shorter, so it refires faster.....The 2Crit vs 1Crit isnt that big a deal, though the extra tons for the CLPL is....but either way, I think its one of the better CLasers. LL is ok
PPC I think is down right **** really. It deals 10PPFLD for 15 heat and a longer cool down? While weighing 6t, taking 2 crits....and ugh. I only hope that maybe both IS and C ERPPC could see a change to 12PPFLD, 13.5 heat, then maybe atleast there would be a slight damage boost over LL and LPL.
I currently roll a 2LL/2LPL on my warhawk and can get a pretty big number of dual shots out of it before really having to worry about heat. I hear "heat level critical" in the background, but heatsinks take care of the heat, allowing me to pretty much teeter on the brink of shutdown while not actually doing so.

Why? because they are both vital to virtually any and all builds and are typically mounted in bulk both both factions. They also function both as the main primary weapon system or at the very least the most widely used secondary weapons.

Best IS Weapon: Teamwork
For real though, I'd say the ERMLas and Gauss.
