i weighted a key at first, but didn't like the give-away at all so i made it exclusive on my left mouse button, missile launch with my right mouse button, and short range defensive weapon on my center wheel button (roll for zoom, press for MLas)

then i figured i might as well get 2 birds stoned at once and pair TAG with c-ERMLas or IS ERLLas (since they both have compatable ranges with TAG) and put both on the left button

as soon as i see a target i fire the laser/TAG combo at him, and by the time the laser finishes firing i got lock so i then fire the missiles

works brilliant

Until the lasers shut you down when all you really wanted was the TAG.

i have TAG slaved to every weapons group - my LRM button and on the middle button by itself so i don't need to keep firing the laser if i choose. but 15DHS on the 1S doesn't make heat a problem

I personally don't ever leave my TAG on that long. The laser flashing around gives away your position so I only use TAG sparingly, so I wouldn't use the toggle.

...That's the point OF the toggle?
Right now you either have to macro the TAG on, or use some of your micro focus to keep a equipment button held down, something that nothing else in the game forces. No one it talking about keeping it on forever.

Expecting a new player to get/use 3'rd party tools before they have played enough to decide "Do I like this game?" is insanity.

The point of the toggle is to bring ease to new players, the exact same reason people have been trying to get built-in VoIP into the game.

I'm not being a troll, I'm just trying to point out that sometimes you want just the TAG. It's not just for you. TAG benefits your teammates too. There are many instances in which I want to just TAG someone. When I don't want the enemy to know I'm behind them. When the enemy is inside my LRM minimum range and I don't want to waste the ammo, but want to give my team the benefit of TAG. Others.

Whatever works for you, but I always have TAG mapped somewhere by itself, just in case.

Would vote no in a poll:

A: Not necessary. (At all.)
B: It is annoying enough as it is with the macro'ers running around with that beam giving away position and flashing their load this way and that.
C: Would take development time, and any amount of that taken towards this endeavor- takes it away from a more important one.

I've had a TAG toggle for quite some time now. I always knew the macro keys on my keyboard would come in handy one day (I rarely ever use them for anything).

And No, I don't keep my TAG on 24/7, giving away my position. It's just that when I DO want TAG on I don't want to have to hold down the button.

Seriously?

1. Yes it is. (Yes it is.)
2. No it's not.
3. Um...

Wow, that is an easy way to post!

Okay, but that's not enough.

Remove it from the Energy Weapons Hardpoint Group, then give TAG its own unique Hardpoint. That way mechs like the CPLT-A1 and Huginn could have access if they'd get that unique Hardpoint added.

From there you can give it an off/on toggle key like ECM's Counter/Disrupt or have it still assignable to Weapon Groups as we currently do.

It does work until you type in the chat then you have to reset it, and that can get annoying.

A toggle is a crutch? Interesting view.

Nonono - a TAG is a gateway macro :P
Start with tag and it leads to more complex macros!

Would it, really? I bet half of the code required to create a toggle for the TAG could be copied from the toggle created to govern the AMS.

And yes, a TAG toggle would be great. It's a no brainer, really. Does the laser sight on a gun require the user to hold down a button constantly? No, it doesn't. It just requires him/her to switch it on.
