I find that larger teams in the group queue bring ECM, so when I want to play with my son and his friends I always run a dedicated ECM/AMS Kitfox. It makes an absolutely huge difference in the games because we're a group of 3 or 4 so get dropped with the "unorganized", team of small groups. I'm almost always the only ECM mech on our team.

At first I just did my thing dancing around behind the lines trying to keep as many friendlies protected as possible. That got boring pretty quick, so I put 2xLRM5 on my Kitfox so that I would have something to do. Well, I found it pretty frustrating that the enemy team, with plenty of ECM, can pop up and stare at us from 500 meters and I can't target them. I'm thinking of bringing a tag laser. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I tag an enemy who's popped up I can lock on and nail him with LRM's even if he has friendly ECM around - correct?

I have the target decay module, so once I have a lock I can duck back down and keep it long enough for my missiles to hit. At least, that's my plan.

Sniping to me means putting a lot of damage in one spot... LRMs don't bring the pain that way.

Unless they have Radar Derp, which cancels the 2 stock second lock on decay, but you get to keep the 1.5 seconds from ATD. Down from a total of 3.5 seconds.

NARC might be a better option; hit the ECM carrier and he'll stay locked for 30 seconds.

And the fact the range on the Target laser is 650ish, and the Narc is around there as well.

Makes the true sniping hard.

As much as I like the idea of using LRMs to direct fire (Blame Mechwarrior 2), You should avoid building an LRM boat with the purpose of direct firing as actually direct fire systems are much much better.
Though I was always curious about how accurate 6 LRM 5s + Tag + Artemis or Narc would be, even though you wouldn't be able to hit the CT reliably due to travel time. One of these days I'll try it out.
Just remember, Tag is one of the few weapons that requires you to stare at the opponent, which can be a very dangerous thing as it makes you very unlikely to want to torso twist out of harm's way. Tag alone allows you to ruin a light's day with LRMs if he's running out in the middle of no where like a fool.

Narc is also extremely precise, so you can miss by going between the legs or the hole in the armpit area, so keep that in mind. Also it's a rather slow projectile, just wait for the right time to shoot it when the enemy is turning/stopping (unless they are walking in a predictable straight line and you know the narc's speed very well).

Edit:
Tag's Range is 750 for both IS and Clan
Narc is 450 for IS, 600 for Clan
Just for reference.

Yes and no. It's possible, but ECM increases your missile lock-on time even when you're using TAG. So you have to expose yourself for a long time to get a solid lock... and then you have to wait for the missiles to fly over there, too. The enemy will have several seconds of warning which he can use to get behind cover.

It's possible to do ninja-TAG with a Kitfox, but you're in more danger than a Raven would be. A Kitfox who is separated from his own team may not have enough speed to escape if he's spotted. Enemy Firestarters and Jenners would just love to hunt you down.
