So I'll be buying some of the new Invasion mechs soon. It says that the patterns are only for pre-ordered mechs. Am I right in assuming that this doesn't count for my other pre-ordered clan mechs from wave 1? Or am I going to be able to give my beloved Timberwolf the clan wolf pattern?

I was sure there was an official comment about this, but I can't find it. Not answered in the Clan wave 2 FAQ.
Best guess is only the wave 2 mechs you have ordered get it for free(this part is pretty clear in the clan ave 2 order page), but it will be available for individual purchase for all mechs later (but don't quote me on that).

Yeah, the first place I looked was the FAQ. I suppose that it's a bit optimistic to expect it on all my clan mechs but a boy can dream.
If anyone could dig up an official comment (or if Russ could make one
) I'd be most appreciative.

idk, but my wave 1 prime variants i highly doubt will be able to use it since they can't use any other camo pattern due to some Invasion status special geomentry.
I would guess the non prime variant will be able to use it which is sad since most people will aim to use the prime variant the most

You know, honestly I just don't understand why they don't have camos set up to be an alternative texture. I mean it doesn't seem like it should be that hard because each piece of geometry on a mech should have its own texture associated with it anyway so it just seems like camo would be a simple replace X with Y flag in the code that just re-textures that piece of geometry unique or not.

No, each piece is not it's own texture. A whole mech is one texture, and the special geometry ones are a different file. I think their extra geometry actually is separate, though, but I've never pulled a special geometry mech apart in a 3d program.

The special geo are extra objects added to the compiled mech through it's own mdf file which is separate to the regular version. The fact that the invasion mechs use a different texture set might not make much of a difference if they are the same as the phoenix mechs, where the special geo was on the variant texture and was not only masked off in the RGB mask textures, it was actually duplicated on the regular texture set too. ie the special geo texture space exists on the regular mechs, it's just those models don't have any geo mapped to those sections of the texture.
imo it's likely that just swapping from the invasion mech shader to the regular shader on an invasion mech would just work without the special geo doing anything wierd in the texture department.
Really there shouldn't be a reason that the special geo stops the other camo specs working. So afaik it's nothing technical on the art side that stops it from working, just like hero mechs...
