Not sure where I fall in the ELO brackets but wherever I am it is a completely different experience when I'm PUGing/Group Play. I see UAV's being shot down left right and center, heck I'll see a team drop three of them at a time just to see all of them shot down in about 15 seconds. In fact I would say from my perspective UAV's could use a buff given how easily they have been dropping out of the sky lately.

That's my experience. To the point sometimes where I wonder how someone shot down my UAV less than 2 seconds after I launched it. It takes me longer than that to find one in the air, let alone shoot it.

Same here. Often, it's my own fault for launching it where it's fairly visible to the other team. But, a lot of times I launch and then see my own team start shooting up at in in the air. It feels like a full quarter to a third of UAVs I launch get shot down by friendlies.

This is where my Track-IR comes into play again. I can glance up without moving my torso up. Many of the mechs have cockpits that are open enough on top to look up with freelook.

My KFX can't even see UAVs - there's a big bar blocking my view! It sucks.

Hold down control, that should activate free look, now look up and your arm reticule will follow. There is a bar of window above that bar of metal, which is great for finding UAV's.

In my kitfox I will pop UAVs if i see them or if our team is getting LRMed while behind cover.
However in heavier mechs i'm probably better off focusing on the other fat mechs.

I keep a watch for replacement UAVs being launched after I shoot one down or see one get shot down. It might not be the best of ideas to replace a lost UAV immediately after it gets destroyed, because there might be some goober in a light on the other side of the ridge waiting for you to give him more free XP and cbills. There's nothing else that looks like a glowing blue orb flying straight up from the ground, so it's pretty hard to miss one if it's in your FOV when it launches. Wait a little bit until it's not on the enemy's mind anymore, and try not to place it in exactly the same spot.

I honestly think they should make UAVs bob up and down and move side to side. Since they're easy to shoot down if you see them. Just make people work for it more.

And yet people like this, who have no idea what UAV is, demand LRMs/NARC/ECM/PPCs/Gauss to be nerfed.

how many newbies even know what a UAV is? Is that even explained in the tutorial? I can't remember and I probably don't think so.

I think it would be awesome to be able to pilot the UAV with the ability to launch fire support missions. Of course your mech would be immobile and vulnerable while you were guiding it. Kind of like the Redeemer from UT, but not quite so one-way.

Watch the skies and watch your minimaps. Those too will help you.

Problably my ELO or something since people almost never shoot down UAVs, so I tend to shoot at least 2 down per match. I just use what is fun so I don't use meta at all (unless it is the most fun thing to do for that mech, like the Trebuchet 7k for example).
I always like having lasers in the arms, so this is just more reason for that. However, whenever I'm screwin around with a Splatapult, or some torso weapon only mech, it's a pain in the arse whenever a UAV is up because people tend to never shoot it down even if you say the co-ordinates. Maybe I should start saying "Shoot enemy UAV in X" instead of "enemy UAV in X" from now on. Afterall, when UAVs came in I just assumed they were not able to be shot down because it's very common for stuff that acts like UAVs to be indestructable in other games. So I found out about being able to shoot it down from other people.

Also, playing the Kit Fox was a pain in the arse because of the massive bar up top that just happens to be around the height where you will see UAVs mostly. Thank goodness for pressing ctrl to freelook, it's one of the few times it's useful.

In the higher Elo games you're lucky to even get targeting information from a UAV. Most are shot down within 2-3 seconds of them deploying.

I think a lot of players don't know about UAVs or how they work. With the game having almost no help for new players, it can be easy to miss.

It can be hard to look up enough in some mechs. I normally don't think to look for one unless I get a missile warning indicator when I know the enemy doesn't have a LoS to me. Then I back up frantically searching the sky for the little bugger.

I have to be honest, I have been playing for about a year now, and didn't have a clue how to take a UAV down until two months ago. One match, I just happened to look up and seen my teammates shooting it in the sky. Good to know :-)
