I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm a newbie to MechWarrior Online and the Battletech universe. I may have played with or against some of you. If I fooked up while on your team, I sincerely apologize and I am open to criticism.

Hello and welcome. Please do urself a favor and... Watch the tutorials, check out YouTube and Twitch TV for demo vids, use the testing grounds in home menu to learn the map layouts and heat effects, go into settings menu ( bottom right hand corner) and learn the keyboard overlay and all the mech functions. Lots of players on teamspeak (Comstar NA, Strana Mechty, NGNG, ect) that will offer their help freely. Good luck and have fun.

Welcome; I hope you enjoy this game.

Here are a few tips:
Remember that your first 25 matches are going to be front-loaded with a "cadet bonus" that will give you a lot of CBills you wouldn't normally get. Just be aware that income per time is going to fall steeply after that.

While there IS a high level meta for competitive gaming, pretty much any mech can be useful if you play smart and co-operatively. Don't stress out if you later think "I bought the wrong mech". I initially had buyer's remorse with my Dragon 1C, and now it is my favorite mech.

For match play: do not be eager to keep firing at a target. Hit and run is the most efficient method in this game.
Try to learn to strafe a target rather than standing still to shoot at it.
Focus on simply staying alive in the match.
Stay with your group whenever possible, but don't bunch up: Think Musket Firing Squad.

And don't be discouraged by the hot heads who are upset with what you are doing. Like as not they saw it because they died first (read: poor positioning) and are spectating you now.

Welcome to the BattleTech universe and MW:O. Currently I am on my mobile, but I will give you tips, guides, and tricks later!

One thing you should know is that the game had a steep learning curve, so don't feel bad about having to ask about things or for not doing well. There are still things I don't know, and I've been playing for almost 2 years! :P Hopefully you'll enjoy your experience with big stompy robots here at MW:O!

Makes a good way to meet new people.

Remember that you can go beyond the machine guns. For example with an XL (extra light) 180 engine (isn't terribly fast but is very effective) I can put an Ultra AC/5 on my Spider. Has some risk of jamming but it packs a mean punch and is good for medium-range sharp shooting. Find a high ridge on something like Terra Therma, River City or Tourmaline Desert and just drop down fire on enemies. Just be careful about popping out of cover in the same spot (as that's a fast way to wind up dead).

Welcome to the game. If you are enjoying Spiders, I might suggest the Commando as well. It's another very fast mech that's excellent at hit and run type combat, and I believe it is cheaper for initial purchase than the Spider.

Feel free to add me as an in game friend, I wouldn't mind running some zippy mechs with a new pilot.

I'd wait on the Commando simply because I believe it needs some solid experience to do well with. It is a fantastic and capable little mech but it needs a combination of patience and finesse that I believe comes with some experience. Unlike a spider which can bolt out of the action with a hefty leap, the Commando can't get away so easily so if things hit the fan a Commando pilot needs to know how to handle it.

Definitely keep the commando in mind for the future, but I would not rush to get it right away.
On a side note, Lordred keeps a screenshot thread called The Perfect Screenshot Thread. I'm frequently in it as a subject. My Commandos.

Thank you guys for the welcome, friend invites, videos and tips. I have been away for a couple of days. Hopefully will be able to play tomorrow night. If you wonder about my gamertag.....I work in a waste water treatment lab and I am a lifelong TMNT fan. My Spider is named "Leatherhead "after one my favorite characters that is an alligator.

Nerdy I be, but my wife's hot ;D

Thanks.

Welcome fellow spider enthusiast! Feel free to friend me as well if you would like. If we catch each other online we can spider pack together sometime. You bring the machine guns I will bring the ecm and we can go whale hunting. (Fishing? Whalering?)
