Wow. You guys are the best! Thanks for the info! I thought in MW4 that one armor was better at deflecting lasers than the other, but I see none of that applies here. After reading through your explanations, I have a much better understanding how it all works. One thing I think will help me understand even better would be an explanation of what items can be used in Critical slots? If I'm sacrificing Crits to load on armor, what items am I giving up? I know I could do some trial and error on Smurfy, but if you could enlighten me or point to a link that would detail items that need critical slots, I would appreciate it. ~S~

There are other armour types, but they are not arround yet. The armour your are thinking of is reflective 3058 for IS 3061 for clans, about 8 to 11 years in game before we'd see them.

Items that use crit slots are weapons, heat sinks, ammo and other equipment like BAP/ECM/Command Console. The engine either uses 6, 10 or 12 depending if it is a standard, Clan XL or IS XL, in that order.

If there is anything else you would like to know, just ask.

As for when things become available, there is a place that we can go to look it up, showing when in universe it should arrive, provided there are some time jumps, it becomes a case as to when in reality we will see it.

You're thinking about reflective/reactive armor. In MW4 there was no standard armor, so FF was "regular", reflective was deflecting energy weapons and reactive was deflecting ballistics/missiles. In MWO we have standard and FF, but don't have specialized armor (reflective, reactive, etc.) yet.

Everything needs crits except for engine (always takes the same number of crits - either 6 or 12 and you have to have one, so that number is static unless you switch from STD to XL), engine heatsinks (don't take any crits), and armor.

Thanks Metus. It seems that all slots are critical slots then, correct? I always thought the term "critical" denoted certain slots for very specific items. Again I apologize for my ignorance. This game has so much more depth than WOT where I came from. In truth, that's one reason I love this game. The chance to modify mechs to one's liking.

Right, all the slots in your mech are critical slots. "Critical" doesn't really denote them as being more important that others. I'm guessing it has something to do with the critical hit system where the size of different equipment changes the likely hood of it being hit but I'm not 100% positive about that.

Long story short, crit slots are just the spaces in your mech.

That's very true, it has to do with how they worked in table top, where this game draws a lot of information from, as once armour was removed from a target you were able to cause "critical damage" by hitting what was protected by the armour.

That's no problem the spaces for specific items would be the hard points that were added by Microsoft when they made MW 4, they make a lot of sense for Battle Mechs, but not Omni-Mechs.... (Battle Mechs = Inner Sphere, Omni-Mechs = Clan Tech.)

If you really do enjoy customization, than I would suggest staying away from the Clan Mechs (omni-mechs) as they are a lot more restricted in what they can and cannot mount or change.

If there is anything else I can do, feel free to PM me.
