First I'd say that it's a nice move for PGI to give out this Cent varient, it's ninja-removal back in closed beta always seemed like a bit of a d-bag move that was only done to boost sales of the yen-low-wang. I find myself wondering if that wasn't IGP's handiwork looking back.
That said, does the AH actually do anything useful in todays enviroment? I have three mastered Shadowhawks and to be honest, it seems like this Cent is inferior in every way to them. Less durable, slower, less ammo, less flexible, no jump jets etc. I've only done a couple matches so far (using an AC20/SRM4 set up) and while I admit the punch it has is nice, I can get about the same punch on my 2D2 with the only real difference being the lack of an AC20's PPD.
So.. anyone have any advice? Or is this thing really just a pretty trophy rather than something you can build seriously?

Like you said, Pinpoint damage. Also, Centurions are famous for refusing to die if you use that shield arm correctly.

Its a pure striker with lots of very high spike damage, and able to stay in the fight longer due to shield arm. The closest thing to it is probably hunchback and this thing has more potential for spike and survivability if played correctly. Personally I would have preferred lasers over the missiles for more pinpoint instead of diluting with spread damage but this is still pretty useful, AC20 can ruin anything and the other weapons are supplemental.

I seriously like this build CN9-AH . Maybe its not as zombie as the A but the machine guns work really well with SRMs when you still have your arm. Runs cool too. You do not have to run it like a yen lo wang.
This is basically identical to my build, but I used a slightly smaller engine and artemis.
Also, does anyone else love the paint job as much as I do? Because I REALLY like the paint job on this thing.

Mark me down as a third person using that build. It's a lot like one of my Dragons except with way more SRM punch.
And yes the paint job is pretty amazing, Especially the way it slow blends the upper and lower colors.

From what I can tell, it fills one of two roles.
1) Close range brawler: machine guns or AC20, and either a lot or a few SRM's. This build wrecks up close, though has no range. It works, but I still say the Centurion A does this a bit better since it has more range (medium lasers), no ammo limit, and better zombie ability (center-torso lasers.) That being said, this is still a good build, and it runs COLD.
2) Heavy escort: This is a modified stock build with the AC20 and some LRM's. You hang around the other, bigger mechs, keeping the pressure on with the LRM's. Once the bad guys finally get to you, kill them with the AC20. This is an odd build since it generally keeps the Standard 200, thus going rather slow for a medium, and forces the enemy to come to you. That's different then many mediums, which are fast and take the right to the enemy. This mech build almost plays like a tiny Atlas: both have LRM's, both have an AC20, and both need to lure the opponent in to use that big gun.

Purpose: Cbill farming. Higher DPS than a YLW.
Phil / Sean Lang did this video to show what can be done with the AH.
But regarding SHDs vs Cents, you could ask the same thing about TBRs vs every other heavy. I guess it's more about giving the player some variety.

Gauss
2x SRM4 1x SRM2
2x MG
XL
-> makes fun, u can deal long range damage as a Gauss sniper and finish mechs in close range fights with SRMs & MG

Loadout for Loadout, I think the Cent is better. Notably because the Shawk can't use an AC20 and an XL. Sure it can have jump jets, more armor, tonnage, etc. But when it comes to sporting an AC20, you can go faster with more ammo in the Centurion. Reference my examples below to see my side-by-side for this specific build:
As can be seen in my examples above, weapon for weapon, I personally believe the Centurion comes out on top; more ammo and more speed being the most notable advantages. The Shadowhawk has GREAT hitboxes, but you're not going to be able to use that and it's unique ability for jump jets to full advantage matching a Cent's loadout.

Just posted in the other AH thread:
Criturion-AH "Valkyrie"
Love the little beast and its durability even with an XL.
