Let's talk the new Atlas.

Do you love it!? I certainly do. I bought a D and DDC in preparation for this beauty.

How did you build yours?

Edit: I forgot to add, thank you PGI!

Looks nice and toasty, I'll enjoy casually moving around behind you and coring your CT after you've overheated =D

I like it, I already owned a DDC but I might get another atlas to max them out, I just swapped the streakers and lrms with 2 srm 6s, and the mediums in the arms with large lasers. I don't make enough c-bills anymore to justify experimenting.

I have to admit, the AS7-S really brings great potential for an Atlas. Taking a brief trip down memory lane, I remember getting the D, then using dual SRM 6's on it, then the DDC and using tripple SRM 6's on it. Now, the proper evolution of such a killing machine, QUAD SIXES!

But my build for the S is actually quite interesting compared to the ones out there (typically quad srm 6) - LRM 10, trip six, ac 20, quad mlas. It brings the heat at point blank and still has something to engage past 270m indirectly.

Oh yes, my build certainly is rather warm. I've overheated more than I'd care to admit. It'll be somewhat better when I get double basics. This of course can be mitigated by chain firing those SRMs.

For a few matches I was tempted by the siren call of 24 srms. It was fun, when it worked, but it was severely limiting.

Now, however, I have seen the light. Save the srms for the D-DC (don't forget the Artemis, it really ups their punch). The S needs 4x LRM5s and enough ammo to solo the entire enemy team.

That's in addition to the AC20 and quad MPLs, of course.

The AS7-S is my first Atlas but I was considering something like this. My problem is going to be weapon groups, since I only have a two-button mouse (with wheel).

I was thinking something like:

Group 1 (LMB) - Arm lasers
Group 2 (RMB)- CT lasers, AC, SRMs
Group 3 (Wheel Down) - LRMs

(I use Wheel Up for zoom)

I'm just worried about having so many different weapons in that second group...

Re-map a weapon group to a key, like e for your lrms or something. Alternatively, you can get some very nice multi-button mice for not too much money.

This probably runs way too hot, but my theorycrafting so far:

LRM10, LB10X, 3xSRM6, 4xML

I also have no idea how much rear armor an Atlas needs...

I only use 5 weapon groups, and using this setup is very frustrating since it doesn't conform to my typical weapon group control:
RA / LA mlas = LMB
CT Mlas = RMB
LRM 10 = MMB
SRM6x3 = Q
AC 20 = E

LMB Arm MLAS RMB AC/20 Forward SMB SRMs Rear SMB CT MLAS

Yes, it is a hot build, mitigated with cool shot, not constantly pressing my backslash button, and having it mastered already its easily run and boatloads of fun.
