I watched several videos and in my opinion the Cockpit moves up and down way too much and is going to make people sick after many hours of play. The Devs need to tone down the movement a bit. Don't the mechs have shocks? Movement should be silky smooth like on a fine luxury car, until damaged in battle.

I'm sure they're already on that, though there should be some movement as it helps immersion

I disagree. You need to feel like you are in a 60ton walking robot, not in a fine luxury car.

Also please take into account that your fine luxury car is driving on perfectly flat and smooth road on FOUR WHEELS, not running over hills, rocks, and bumpy terrain on TWO LEGS.

Perhaps they will put in some options so people can adjust it to their liking.

Okay, just to be clear, not suggesting an option to completely negate the movement of the cockpit, but just enough to tone down a little. I say this cause well, shocks can be upgraded for stiffer or smoother ride. Sway bars and cross bars to stiffen chassis. Not saying allow for the option to turn mech into a Rolls Royce cushion of air ride.

Personally the ride looks pretty good to me as is but I can see some having issues.

The legs dont stay perfectly parellel while moving, one goes up, other goes down, therefore you get an up and down motion!

Thanks for attending Physics 101. Test next thursday.

I'm not sure mechs do have much in the way of shocks (not a lore expert, someone feel free to provide evidence one way or the other).

Mechs are extremely top heavy and rely on neurohelmets and their pilots for balance. I think shocks would throw off this balance and throw off a pilot.

Also, comparing car shocks to a bipedal robot running down a steep hill is... not super accurate.

Don't know much about lore, but it strikes me that they design 'em for function over comfort...silky smooth isn't necessary on a war machine.

That said I suffer from motion sickness myself, so I'd prefer that they not over do it.

Please no... or you'll get people minimising it just to help them aim while running.

Mechs are not fine luxury cars. They are war machines.

Tanks have shocks. Tanks are extremely bumpy. And they don't even have to deal with bipedal movement.

When you're in a war machine, you can't afford - as you eloquently called them - luxuries. Suspension would weigh ridiculous amounts, and for little to no improvement in aiming. The main thing is, is that the pilot doesn't feel any of it, he's safe strapped in a harness and cradle.

Some of us like being sick. I gots a jeep with big shocks and lots of travel, and my view is bouncing all the time. Mechs are not for "cruising" down mainstreet.

I think cutting down on "up and down movement" will make it too easy to target specific areas. It looks fine to me and think they should keep it the way it is.

Actually I feel the cockpit movement is just about right. Also you cant just add an option to turn it off lest it become mandatory to do so. As I have said before any ingame option that gives an advantage no matter how small is no longer an "option" from a competative point of view. And yes no camera shake would give a slight advantage over camera shake.

It should depend on the mech design, damage received and amount of tonnage spent on Gyros and other equipment. Extra Medium laser or better ride?

PC BattleTech games are all about the visceral experience and the limits of machinery. If you want smooth as glass gaming, you are playing the wrong game. When you get hit with ballistic weapons, expect your mech to spin. Chasing someone over rough ground, the cabin movement adds to the difficulty. A reason why a scout would want to lurk in rough terrain.

IN summary. NO

Ok you are going to have two extremes.

1) Your Cockpit couch is compensating for the sway of the 'Mech in which case the cockpit glass will be moving alot.

or 2) Your cockpit couch is nailed down, at which point your BODY will be jerked around a whole lot making your view even less stable.

The sway is appropriate because you can only dampen and compensate a cockpit couch so much.

It's like with your car, your seat is bolted down rigidly, but in a high performance car that is lowered or on tight struts you feel everything. In a cushy charger or larger lux sedan you get a really nice cushy ride.

There are no dampeners on a 'Mech, or else they are limited to the foot area only, so any if not all of the dampening needs to be put under your arse, isolating the cockpit couch from the rest of the 'Mech somehow.

Note: this is based on an engineering point of view, but even really smart devs can think of these things without being a mechanical fabricator.

This is a PvP game, reducing the vertical movement will improve your aim, so this is not something that should be set by the player, IMO.
