Firing a gun actually does create a muzzle flash and fireballs, thats a fact. Something that would make sense is maybe a new module 'reduced muzzle flash' or just make it random with a chance of 30% to create the effect.

I don't want to be **** about this, but muzzle flashes are hollywood material.

Military weapons use much less powder than the bright firing blanks hollywood use, to get the muzzle flashes for visual effect.

Even the muzzle flash from these huge beasts is very momentary:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm6yYi-JugY

What do you reckon they equate to, ac20 maybe?

It obviously has a (loose) basis in reality but the problem is how completely, ridiculously overdone the effect is, just firing a machine gun should not practically blind half of the cockpit view for the duration, which is what happens in MWO. It shouldn't need a module either because that's stupid, the effect just needs to be toned WAY down.

In reality, most explosions dont actually have fireballs come from them.

Its Hollywood that does that, and its really, really obnoxious in this game.

Here here. Most explosions are an initial flash, then a crapload of displaced earth and dust - which, for my money, looks far more impressive than the Michael Bay style warfare that permeates most games.
