PGI admitted defeat when they implemented it. They showed that they cannot make a MechWarrior game without twisting and contorting basic Battletech rules. They showed that they can't balance the game without making up their own special rules.

The saddest part is that if they had followed Battletech more faithfully, we would be out of beta by now. MechWarrior would have reclaimed its MW abbreviation from that piece of crud modern warfare. Instead we are stuck here in the mud, spinning the tires that continue to dig MechWarrior's grave.

If PGI would follow the Battletech rules a bit more faithfully, this game would sell itself.

We need a new MechWarrior game that plays like MechWarrior 3, builds mechs like MechWarrior4, controls like MechWarrior Online, and has community warfare like Chromehounds did on the Xbox 360

"The Neroimus War was an online campaign mode which involves the three countries fighting for the region of Neroimus. Players can join or make a squad, the equivalent of a clan or guild in other online games, to participate. The map of Neroimus is divided into several areas connected by paths. Each area is divided into several maps. Players may launch a mission within any enemy area adjacent to a friendly area, or in any friendly area which is under attack. Victory yields merit points, which raise your rank, captured parts for the lottery, and capture points. When a country has gained a certain amount capture points on a map, 25,000 to 32,000 for normal battlegrounds and 50,000 for capital cities, that map is turned over to the country. An area belongs to the country which has the most capture points in its maps. When a capital city falls, all areas under that country become part of the conquering country, and players may only fight to reclaim their capital, or seek asylum in another country. The War ends when one country controls the entire map or after two months have passed. After a war ends, squads may choose to change alliance to a different country, and then the next War begins. It should be noted that all of the experimental parts have become available, now only captured parts are available."

The Alphastrike is certainly a piece of it, Group Fire with that - all under pinpoint convergence.

The Heat System and incurred Penalties are another huge one that contributes to encouraging it as DPS alternatives don't work.

Weapon Balance is a thing almost unheard of it seems.

Then we have Mech Sizes and Hitboxes...

Oh, and the Electronic Warfare (on/off) switch.

Am I missing something? I might be...

realize that poptarting and max pinpoint alpha has been an issue in EVERY MECHWARRIOR GAME THAT ALLOWS CUSTOMIZATION. in mechwarrior 2 and 3 in particular there were 0 customization limits besides max engine size of 400 crit limits and tonnage. you might as well just have 20 ton generic mech through 100 ton generic mech. cause that was all that was in that game.
