I think a new map, along the size of Alpine, that's nothing but a HUGE crater would be a fun change. There could be boulders strewn across the slope and a jumble at the center for cover and such, similar to the rock formations on Caustic, just more of them. The crater would need to me minimum 2km across though. If desired, man-made ledges and structures could also be in the mix (a long ago attempt to mine?).

A Big ass crater? Something like the Crater base in PLanetside 2? That would be the biggest LRM **** fest ever....

I think that map would play out more like the current circle the map fests then any map ever...

Caustic and Terra Therma have enough "rush into the middle and die" for me thanks.

I guess it's a good thing what map you play on isn't random or something.

Yeah, because nobody knows how to use the mentioned obstacles for cover and designers also don;t know how to use said obstacles to redirect flow.....

NARCs would be awful on a map like that. Worse than Caustic

I think a map in an underground structure would be awesome. Lots of hallways and pillars for mechs to dive and duck in between. with a large open area near the middle. plus since the roof is low, lrms are useless! yea!!

Caught me red-handed. I'm not even a Clanner but I can't help but notice the lack of Clan society. :)

It sounds cool in theory, but if you think the LRM whining is bad now...

This map would just be the middle.

I could see this map. It's a good idea for a start.

Big crater in the middle. Okay--killing ground.

But what about the edges. Plenty of room for other things.

Awesome idea. There needs to be some sort of reason for being down the bottom, however, as the higher edges of the crater would infer a vast tactical advantage against those slumming it further down. Direct fire would be more accurate, and LRM's would be utterly deadly. There would have to be some serious thought put into cover. Also, if it was a steep enough slope, faster mechs could also end up doing the leg-break-bounce-shuffle every time they changed direction, so care would need to be taken.

Perhaps a partially terraced mine?

Maybe even some water at the bottom, that offers a drastic cooling bonus to anyone standing in it?

Hmmm. If it were a kidney shape, perhaps the inner part of the crater could have some structures on it.

Sorry not feeling this one. A giant bowl doesn't sound fun at all.

There could be huge boulders, or rock formations that survived or were formed with an asteroid impact? A bit like the spires in tourmaline, but sharper and radiating outwards from the impact point.

There could also be freight tunnels leading upwards/downwards towards points of interest or structures.

This sort of map seems to lend itself more to the objective style mentioned for CW - perhaps capturing the center could activate orbital defenses or some crap like that? Think along the lines of a military installation orbiting the impact site like the hyperion base in borderlands, or like the installation visible from the new map. If you take the center, you get a large advantage, but are vulnerable while you do it.

I think the idea of a crater map has merit.

I could see it as a Solaris Arena type map, but probably not a normal objective match

Well what they could do is have some Caves for cover and "hit and run" tactics on lights.

Toss some cover in the middle, maybe some Giant Spires for cover. This is where the limited game modes hurt though, if this was a king of the hill with 1 cap point it would work to give a reason to head to middle. Caves would be fun though, get behind a DW and it's in a world of hurt, run face on and OMG.

I do like the idea of seeing all your opponents across the map well out of range of anything though, would feel like an epic battle about to take place.

Have caves for cover, but fill them with lava so that you pegged at 90% heat if you stayed in them.
