A registered account by the name
rebek4love

has been sending me spam emails from within the MWO forums. Although not diffuicult to just delete the offending emails, it is extremely annoying and an invasion of personal privacy. Is there any way you administration guys/girls can help prevent this by adding contact options/settings in the profile control panel please? I don't want my profile being open to public scrutiny and I'm sure everyone else would agree.

This is only the beginning so I reckon it's best to nip this sort of thing in the bud before it saturates the forums and upsets a lot more people.

Why would you put up contact info on a public board like this then? Pretty simple self help don't put make that info available.

It's probably just his wife/girlfriend/daughter trying to tell him something and he just deletes it before reading it.

They are emailing to my webmail inbox. They are spamming from within this site.
The forums are public, agreed, but that doesn't mean your profile has to be. Any decent site would safegaurd your contact details to friends only. I run my own forums and nobody gets spammed from them.

Just read your mail and then respond to the sender that you are not interested.

Simple enough?

That's obviously a dangerous assumption. I never put anything in my profile that I would not want the public to see. Check my profile, no contact info. Yours has all kinds of info that people could use for bad purposes. If you don't safeguard your privacy, don't assume someone else will.

It's not an assumption - it's a common security consideration and I would know if anyone was spammed from my site.
I am in process of removing the details and the offender has been reported but the site should not be displaying details for all to abuse.
Anyway other than the trolling comments I do hope others take heed and don't add any contact details unless MWO forums sort this out.

Only trying to help others.

Actually you assuming that's how it works is an assumption. Your assumption may be justified based on other forums, but it's an assumption nonetheless. I always assume that anything I would put in a profile would be public, seems to be serving me well. B)

Henry the eighth had a good way of dealing with spammers in the 1500's, I hear some of his six wives done some spamming. It's true, I swear.
