[Question] Quirk Math

When looking through the quirks I noticed that a number of times there was an indication of a specific weapon that received some kind of tweek along with all weapons of that type for example, first on the list,

LCT-1E
Small Laser Range +30%
Energy Weapon Range +30%

It seems odd to me that all weapons of that type would get the bonus and that the small laser would then get that much of an additional bonus. If these abilities do stack how does the math work out on that?

yes they stack.... Fear the SL locusts! I don't have a locust, so i couldn't tell ya the exact math on it.. I think it all works off the base number though

SL's also got a natural range boost today to, as well as increased damage :)

They stack but are not multiplicative- Two 30% buffs will give you a total of +60%, not 100+30% and then +30% of that.

Some early drafts of the quirks ONLY had weapon-specific buffs but many players wanted buffs based on weapon type and not only one specific weapon. What we got was a half&half approach.

No, SPLs got the damage boost, SLs did not.

SLs on that locust have a range of 216m. The range module gives them another 16m.

Total stacks, btw they are additive rather than multiplicative.

Any energy weapon, + 30% more range. (270 ML + 30% = 351 meters).
Small Lasers 30% + 30% energy = 60%. (Don't know or care what MWO's B.S. range for SLs is, just using the default 90; "144" meters.)

....damn it, looked it up anyway. 135? Really? 7.7;
Anyway, 135 + 60% = 216 meters optimal range. That really would be handy for a Locust.

Add the range module for small lasers... and lets pretend there's a level 5 that does 50% (made up).
60% + 50% = 110%.
Now apply.
135 meters + 110% = 283.5 meters for optimal damage. Note that at twice that range (567 meters) you'd do exactly 0 damage, but 1.5X that range (425.25 meters) you'll do 1.5 damage per laser.

this is in the notes.. So a locust is going to be a quite a bit better than that.. Close to a a ML now, with faster recycle,, I think that might be a pretty good weapon on them. I thought both got boosted, I stand corrected.


- IS Small Laser
- Range increased from 100 to 135
- Max range increased from 200 to 270


- IS Small Pulse Laser:
- Damage increased from 3.4 to 4.0
- Heat decreased from 2.4 to 2.0
- Range increased from 100 to 110
- Max range increased from 200 to 220
