Greetings All,
I am running my Storm "C" w/a LRM and wanted to have a good weap for when the LRMs ran dry, but also wanted some range so I don't get too close and get stomped, so, I am trying both of these weap sys, the LL has had a tweak and now does 13 dam (x2 = 26, 10 heat) vs the PPC, (10 dam x2 =20, 30 heat), but smurfy states that the ppc also does 2.50 splash dam per component/2 comp max, (Side note: I seem to recall somewhere that the CPPC or CERPPC did 15 dam/15 heat, did I miss that one or did the devs not put it in, or am I just having delusions of grandur?).
They are the same weight so that does not come into it, would the splash dam outweight the lower heat/cool down of the LL? The PPC has a dps of 3.5, the LL 2.90. Is there much diff or is it more of playstyle?
Thank you all for your help.

CERPPC does 10 dmg pinpoint, 2.5 dmg per adjacent side (if none there, dmg goes nowhere)
Difference is mainly playstyle as any weapon can be made to work, at least as far as I found out, even if the "workable circumstances" might be very special battlefield scenarios only.
Additionally : ppc allows for way shorter exposure times, while lasers of any kind allow for correction of target but force exposure .

PPC's when you wanan pop out, fire retreat.
Pulse when for more damage, probably more spreaded.
I have to admit, the decision is hard. they are both now the same weight and have their vey own differences which are both advantags and disadvantages.
play both laodouts, see what probably fits your playstyle better.

Pulse lasers all the way, because the God of WubWub told me to. To often it is easier to do at least partial damage with bad aiming with lasers than miss completely with PPCs.

Personally i'd take the Large Pulse since it is the more versatile weapon and great against lights. PPC are hit or miss while the LPL will usually do at least part of its damage to whatever component you aimed at. When you run out of ammo late in a match there is a high chance that many mechs have exposed internals and while the PPC is better to punch through armor, the LPL is generally better suited for crit seeking especially against fast moving or maneauverable targets.

The Clan ER PPC is still doing 15 damage, but out of fear of a Gauss Rifle-like weapon that isn't managed by a proper and limiting heat threshold that would prevent two of them from ever being fired at the same time (due to the obvious issue of hitting the threshold and shutting down)... PGI gave it a damage transfer. So 10 goes into the point of impact, and 2.5 goes into up to 2 adjacent sections.
