Yes to rolling hills, no to a flat plain. Rolling hills could make for a good variety of tactics.

A flat landscape with electromatic issues would be cool in my opinnion; there could even be an abandoned outpost from some past colonization attempt, and maybe a crashed drop ship here and there, and some big bones from some lost creatures. and a few sand drifts; not all flat barren lands have to be flat.

Although, it would be interesting to have this really small salt flats area where the two teams drop like with 500m of each other in a hex pattern and just go for broke.

I'd like to see a tropical islands map instead, with bases and such. Make more usage of water in the game, since certain mechs can take advantage of submerged heatsinks.

I could see a map involving sandstorms and electronic interference being a thing, though.

A complete radar/ECM disruption is a little overkill. Halving the range of each would be cool though, and definitely keep LRM boats from being OP on such an open map. There still needs to be some dry river beds or something to give brawlers a little cover.

I'm all for varied levels with weird stuff like that, flexible mechs are good for gameplay, IMO.

Everyone complaining that the gameplay of the map would be too different from what we are used to in the other maps.
Guess what? This is the best reason to have a map like this.

Yes, perfectly flat ground would make sniping easier.
Yes, LRMs, ECM, and TAG would become more prevalent.
Fine! Let it be!
LRMs and Sniping are less effective in tight maps like Mining Collective and Viridian Bog, so why not have the flipside?
It's like everyone wants to limit the game to small brawler maps.

...And yes, it would indeed be a nod to previous MechWarrior games, specifically the Mesa Desert map from MW2:

Those blue orbs are PPCs heheh

Most pilots have no military or law enforcement experience so they never use cover. You can always see which pilot stand out in the open, charge into the open and get shot up like swiss cheese. Make all new maps flat so pilots can learn the hard way.

make this idea into more maps:

scorching sands like mesa in a desert (make some of them hollow, or with stairs, some low enough to jump on) - weather could be constant sandstorm of varying intensity (visibility getting better past 5 Minute mark), sensor range could have a -70% sensor range buff.
("stalk in the dark") but have the storm clear up at night with almost zero ambient light.

a sandstorm map (whatever is in there, sensors unreliable at 10% remaining range - ecm like - visibility below 30 meters. limited showing of team mates on minimap, voip becomes reaaaaallly usefull). would make some excellent close range encounters.

some rolling dunes map with a centra ridge would be cool, too.
(fire lines par excellence)

a rolling dunes desert with some oasis / water / small town / research outpost in the center.
(makes for good racetrack around the hiding place)

a archipelago of Islands with a water desert around them (i still want that islands map)

I fully support open terrain maps. Not flat plain maps like potentially suggested here. Rolling hill is a go. In my opinion very large maps with the new game modes that force the death ball to split. Maps with mine fields that are generated semi-randomly like varied spawn points (BAP detectable). The inherent idea is to create dynamic battles and encourage balanced loadouts.

Forest Colony. Take away all the mountains that are essentially wasted space and add in the gigantic trees in all those areas. What you would end up with is open area with quasi LRM protection that would support both brawling, sniping and indirect fire. Point is all of the maps besides polar highland and tourmaline (a little) have very limited avenues of approach to the enemy. Thus we meet in the middle and fight over some central terrain object in one big circle of movement.

Yes moar bigger and open maps! I really miss long range fighting and feeling like beeing on a wide oben battlefield. We have way to much Solaris7 battle arena like maps. (Not that this is a bad thing, but Mechwarrior Online should be more than just solaris)

A desert version of Polar Highlands would be good.

Even reskinning Polar would give an instant new map.

One of the best maps in MWLL was a desert with pyramids and columns, While you would not necessarily need the ancient civilization theme a similar desert type terrain would be awesome. It would need expanses of huge dunes, rocky outcrops, deep depressions, etc. to satisfy both those who love ranged warfare as well as the brawler types.

This would be a good map if implemented correctly. Problem is, I have zero faith in PGI's ability to implement it correctly. Sorry, this gets a no from me.
