Thanks Almond Brown and all the other helpful folks who showed up after the first few responses. :)

As I'm trying out some brawlers, I really need to get the torso twisting working... it's not as big a deal in light mechs who are always on the run anyway!

In addition to trying a mouse with a sniping feature I'd highly recommend investing in a quality gaming mousepad. You really benefit from smoother movement and better precision.

As far as mice go, I tried the Ratt but it didn't work out for me as I have small-ish hands and 'claw' rather than 'palm' the mouse. I'm using a Corsair M95 now and like it.

I'm using R.A.T 7 mouse with 75% DPI reduction when "Sniper button" is pressed. My mech of choice is Raven 3L 2ERLL meta build and for that setup 75% DPI reduction works fine when sniping using Adv. zoom module.

In FPS a common trick for sensitivity would be to set it so that moving the mouse to the edge of your mouse pad has you looking directly behind you. That way without looking or thinking you can know exactly how much to move the mouse for your desired reaction. This doesn't really work as well in MWO because all the mechs have different twist amounts so really your only option would be to increase you sensitivity.
