So is there a thread some place that explained how the random maps work. I'm sure it's in my head but I seem to get the same few maps depending more on what time of day I'm playing. And for sure I get theses bursts of the same map over and over. I got dropped into tera 6 times in a row a day or two ago and it just made me walk away from the computer on the sixth drop.

Don't get me wrong I like random maps I just don't enjoy playing any map 3-6 times in a row, or the same 3 maps for a hour and a half when I dropping.

Same here. I have seen Terra Therma (one of my favorite maps) appear....wait for it.. ONCE in 28 hours of game play. (I love my Razor software).

Instead I receive the same maps over and over and over again.

What would be incredibly outstanding is if someone on PGI staff would take the time out of their day to acknowledge posts such as these and respond! This would go a long way towards player happiness and understanding.

So any PGI staffers up for the challenge? Can one of you please reply and explain how on earth the map rotation/selection system works AND why some players get the same map over and over and over again?

Please?

I've seen a lot of threads like this, and the response is usually "working as intended" in some wording...

I have heard that some maps are given more "weight" than others, such as when Mining Collective came out, they apparently lowered Alpine and some others and raised the percentage of Collective showing up, but have no clue what the numbers look like normally.

I've also had instances of being stuck on one map or two variants of the same map(night and day) for hours on end. It's pretty miserable, and if it's the case that so many of us just have that bad a time with RNG, it would be really nice to be able to un-check maps, at least to lower their chance, if not totally nix them, because clearly, for many of us, the RNG is not working very well, at least on the "random" part of the phrase.

(Yes, I realize if you look at your stats page, most will see that they have a fairly even distribution, seeming to prove us all wrong, but that does not take into account the fact that it's an overall number, and ignores instances such as being stuck on one map for hours +. I could get Caustic all day Sunday, then not see it much all week, and the stats page will show it as even, meanwhile, that one day I'm stuck, I want to smash my monitor...)

when something is random, you get clumps of things happening over and over, and periods where you don't see it at all.

That's why you get long strings of red, or evens on a roulette wheel. That's just the way it works.

Throw in confirmation bias, and you remember when you get that same map over and over, but don't think about all the other times you didn't.

It just drives me crazy. I mean I would much rather get dropped into A map I don't like, if I know it's going to be like 6 drops before I see it again, I had the snowy city map for 8 of the 12 drops I did tonight. I don't even mind the map but damn it made me stop playing and go play battlefield I was so sick of the same damn fight over and over.

Post your map numbers. These threads pop up periodically and every single one I've seen that posts their stats for map rotation shows a pretty even rotation.

RNG means you'll get runs now and then, but long term you'll get a pretty even spread.

Well my issue is not the total amount of times I have played any one map. It's the bursts that they come in, seems like it would not be a huge effort to pull a map off you rotation, if it was one of the last one or two drops you did.

That's the thing with RNGs though. You'll get some runs like that but the map rotation overall is a pretty even spread. I've seen 2 examples in nearly 3 years that showed a slight anomaly.

With that said, yes it would be nice if they would implement something that pulled a map out of rotation after you've hit it xx times in a row.

here's the problem with that

Population
MM
Queues
Game modes

Many already have lengthy wait times to find a match. When you pull a map completely out of rotation it increases that time. PGI has mentioned a map voting system that is being worked on which would solve this issue but just to randomly pull a map would wreak havoc with an already stressed MM system
