Ok, so we all do dumb things sometimes, but we only ever share out "glory moments" and not those we would rather forget. The purpose of this thread is to encourage new players that even though they make mistakes there is still hope, by posting some of the dumbest mistakes we have made. Obviously this is all for fun so no flaming or hating on anyone. Just share your worst moments so we can all laugh at ... I mean along with you.

Here is my most recent:
I run my anansi with 2mpl and an asrm4. When the new quirks came out the anansi got a boost to ml. So, to take advantage of this I switched to regular mediums and added the mg's back on with the extra tonnage. Took the anansi out and played a whole round and never fired a single machine gun round. Ok, easy enough mistake to make. I think that was dumb and go on with life. Later the same day, I jump back in the anansi and do exactly the same thing! Twice I made it through matches without remembering I had machine guns or even looking at my weapon groups to realize they were there!

I just discovered my Triple AC/2 Shadowhawk had three whole tons of Ultra AC/5 ammo in it.

Oh lets see...
  • I took this game seriously at one point.
  • I expected founders mechs to be good.
  • I expected PGI to deliver stuff on time(or at all) - (tho they are getting better now).
  • I joined DHB (in fairness: I heard they are better now - hi redshift).

I've done some pretty silly things - I'm sure I could keep going =D

Not paying attention to my team's location and finding myself well behind enemy lines.

A little while ago, I spent weeks figuring out loadouts for my firestarters and I wanted the S variant to be different. In the process of making it a spotter, I had to downgrade the engine from the XL 295 that I planned to a smaller one. The XL 275 was my first thought, because I still wanted that in engine heatsink. After I purchased the XL 275 I noticed that the XL 280 weighs the same.

What a waste...

What the OP said about MGs; been there, done that. Most my Mechs don't have MGs, so I sometimes forget to trigger them on the ones that do. I'm not used to holding down a trigger for continuous fire I suppose.

Last night PUG'ing in my Atlas (K or D, forget which), was running with another Atlas (D-DC), and he turns and goes into the center crater along with a Timby and I think a medium. So I figure, ok, we're pushing, (not my choice, but it's PUG, so I go) so I line up next to the D-DC and start pushing along the rim. We start taking fire and I'm intent on targeting and firing on enemy "whack-a-moles" as they peak over rim, still advancing. I start to notice that I'm taking a whole bunch of fire from multiple enemy mechs. Look down at my map, and found out why.

My whole team aborted the push and backed out the way they came. Oh good. I'm dead. Too far in it now, so just kept pressing on and firing until they dropped me. Yeah, we lost that one too (no surprise).

I'm guaranteed at least one "Doh" moment pretty much every time I play. Such is the way of things. At least it's a game, and most of the time, still fun.

I repeatedly linebreak in pug matches without telling my team what I'm doing or to follow me in to the hole and take advantage of it. Then I get mad when nobody follows me in :D

I do it too. I've long since quit being mad about being left pissing in the wind though.

My favorite was when I spotted an enemy D-DC. I was in a DWF.

We're on Caustic and he's off on my left - and he's kinda ambling around ... and DOES NOT SPOT ME. I've got no BAP or CAP, so no way to get target data on him, so I start to unload ... I type "ENEMY DDC IN (square)" into team chat and keep pouring it on. My target is torso twisting like mad, and I assume can't get a bead on me because I'm laying UAC rounds into him like nutballs. He's practically spinning in a circle.

Then the ECM raven on my team walks up and stands in front of me, then lases me across the cockpit.

The D-DC isn't an enemy, he's a friend and my HUD is bugged and not showing his triangle. I probably stripped all his armor, blow out a torso and exposed the internals on the others.

Was surfing in the mechlab while waiting for couple people to change modules or something (small group I was running with this weekend for challenge). They say they are ready. I pop open the social/ group icon, ready up... searching.

Drop into the match... wait why I am in the wrong mech.

Accidently readied up in the wrong mech. :o Of course that means no modules and I am in an ill equip mech for the drop.

I've never been much of a CN9 fan, in MW:O anyway. But I'm determined to make this free CN9-AH thing work. I've tried out some silly builds with it. Last night, I tried 3 MG and 3 LRM5 with no AMS. Works OK as long as you stay with the main group. Got caught by myself several times, as I'm usually flanking in a medium mech. I forget I don't have any hard hitting short range weapons. So bad habits are hard to break.

With only 3 MG as my only short range weapon, even a mostly armored Locust is a huge threat with that loadout. It was funny to say the least.

one match with the CN-AL in canyon, was having a good match got a few kills was near the end of the match, we had 3 guys left they had 2. enemy spider was running around causing havok and we had a cicada chasing while me and the other friendly- jager maybe(?) that was heavily damaged were trying to take out a direwhale. i'm firing away with my ML/MPL combo why trying to dodge alpha after alpha from the dying whale wishing i had something that could just hit it from long range and not keep losing body parts.

then i check my loadout after losing my second arm and notice the untouched ALRM 5 and full ammo sitting there waiting to be used... in my defense i had played a pile of matches in my SRM CN-A trying to get my token win for the day (was still trying to master them) and forgot i had switched mechs.

So, I had completely forgotten about the change in amount of ammunition for the AMS system, and combined with that when I was adjusting the ammo for my Blackjack I had accidently put AMS instead of AC2. I ended up going into a battle with 75rds of AC2 and 10K of AMS.

Ahhh what a hoot that was.

At least I had my lasers :)

Was at the Crimson Strait running Jenners as of late. I often switch between them if a get squashed early in match. Catch sight of the enemy force and cut right toward some low buildings. I hit the spacebar....and as the nose of my Jenner smacks into the building instead of zooming over them I realize that I'm in my Oxide (no JJ!!) instead of my JR7-F which has 5 JJ.... oops...

I jump back and forth between spiders and commandos. Combine that wih the fact that my commando 3A and Anansi have very similar loadouts, I have done this more than I would like to admit.

Today, I died early in a match with my tdk. I get back to the mech lab and see my commando 2d sitting there and think, "I haven't run him in awhile." So I drop into a match and realize I had stripped all the srms off the mech To try an experimental build on another mech. So, I got to play a whole round with 1 ml! We won but it wasn't the brightest point in my mech piloting career.
