I haven't seen one Atlas K around since the quirks. Well, before that too, ofc...has anyone else? Or even an RS for that matter.

I see the RS all the time. The K was never popular, but I haven't seen it after the quirks either. The Gauss + PPC combo PGI had intended don't work for that mech at all, IMO. Its one redeeming feature has always been dual AMS, but it's hard to make weight for AMS when you're already taking the heaviest ballistic and energy weapons in the game, along with ammo and heatsinks.

I'd much rather have LL or ER LL and LRM quirks for the AS7-K.

And I've always run 4xLPL on the AS7-RS, but oh well. I still benefit a little bit from the quirks for that one.

Neither of them received particularly good quirks.

The RS got LLAS range, which is decent, but there are only so many of those you can realistically run and loading 20 tons worth of weapons into your arms is not usually the best option for an Atlas.

Then it got cooldown boost, not a bad thing except...no heat reduction.

The K is just goofy with Gauss and PPC quirks.

if I am going to us an Atlas: D, DDC, S, and Boars Head. hard to beat the S for some good mech destruction with all them missiles.

The more I play lately the less enamored I am of the Atlas, any kind.

I used to run the RS all the time, mainly because of the 2 energy slots for each arm, but ...meh. DDC or go home but nowadays that's even a bit less usefull with the bap changes.

The arms and even torso weapons for all variants are just far too low and too few in the current meta, imo, and like folks have said the quirks are rather pathetic. The K, especially, should have gotten massive (usefull) quirks that at least match up with the stock loadout.

Atlas-K used to be my favorite mech back in the day. It was also my first mech I bought. I was looking forward to the quirks reviving him but unfortunately pgi seems to have used some lottery machine to pick the quirks for it. It did not get any revival, too bad. Maybe on the next pass.

There are no quirks that can save such a subpar robot, unless said quirks include +1 ballistic and +1 missile.

I don't know bro...

50% ML range boost
25% heat gen for energy weps
25% ac20 speed / range / heat gen
25% LRM cooldown
25% AMS faster fire

Hmmm, well funny you should ask, I just dropped in my K tonight. Now that the Q's are full of heavies, and the med Q is still fluctuating up there, I thought it was time to finally dust of my Atlai and try to grind on them some more. I've only just finished basics on all 4, so long way to go. So I've been alternating between the S, D, D-DC and K variants. I haven't changed the load outs for the new quirks, just been playing them as I originally outfitted them.

Did "ok" in the K tonight, at least it's got 2 AMS and I bring 3 tons of AMS ammo for them. I'm liking the S, but the obvious first choice is the D-DC with ECM.

Hmmm, those quirks are fairly friendly to my long mastered Atlas-K build of old, been focusing understandably on my Atlas-S of late, might have to bring out the old girl and see.

RS is still alive, I use it from time to time. D is also alive. AS7-K was never alive, I had to switch to 2xPPC AC20 because of it's awfulness. (With 2xAMS of course).

Interesting story about the Atlas K

See, if nobody OWNED an Atlas K, then nobody is going to PLAY the Atlas K after the perks.

I pilot the K a lot, but yea the quirks it got didnt make sense to me, overall atlas quirks were way way underwhelming.

I have not played my Atlas-K in a long time - but it does share the advantage of the D and S variants - the ability to zombie. With that said - purchasing all these mech packs, plus the free mechs takes time to master them all....which leaves little time to play with previously mastered mechs.

Apart from the S, none of the Atlas mechs got any good quirks. D-DC got laughable crap just so PGI can say they gave it a quirk, the D is like the S, but weaker, the K is WTF, and the RS is flat-out non-functional "I'll be rendered useless 67% faster than another Atlas, or killed 50% faster" shite. Boar's Head is a capable brawler, but a pretty big target at 300m+, and easily defanged.

The thing that kills the intended builds of the K and RS are the super low slung Atlas hardpoints, it is very hard to snipe semi-safely when you ppcs and large lasers fire from about your waist level, right into any low rocks you might be taking cover behind.

This is the real reason long range direct fire guns don't work well on Atlases.

As opposed to say, Stalkers, that have high mounted energy hardpoints letting you peak over cover relatively safely and snipe with ppcs or lls.

Atlases pretty much need short range gun focused quirks, at least for direct fire weapons.

Add the fact that the K is pretty much all around sub par compared to the other atlases and it's not very good quirks, well, it's no wonder no one uses them much.

I am currently running the RS.
Simple built, 4xLL, 1xLRM10, 1xLRM5, 20 DHS, 350 STD.
Just walking around melting things and dropping missile on anything I don't have LOS.
Haven't even gain double Basic yet.

This is what I used to farm XP and CB on the RS, my very first mech. Don't alpha, you'll melt.
