I think AMS indeed has to be able to "see" the missile with the only obstruction being the mech's own body. AMS will shoot through walls without issue.

I believe AMS does require actual LOS. If you turn your back onto the missiles, don't be surprised AMS isn't working as intended.

That's possible, but I've witnessed AMS shooting down LRMs coming from directly behind mechs on many occasions. It's saved my Jester on several occasions when I was running from the enemy team.

In terms of outside obstructions, try shooting LRMs from on top of HPG manifold when an enemy mech with AMS is underneath. Their AMS will amusingly shoot your missiles as they are launched. Another obvious spot for this is Forest Colony, when LRMs are being fired from outside the cave, AMS will fire from inside the cave, and shoot down missiles outside. It's kind of annoying because it give away your position.

It Shoots at all Missiles BUT only in Semi-Spherical AoE (Umbrella!) so if a missile trajectory is below the attachment's base of your AMS it's not shooted and it's a shame...

In Practice, the smaller the mech the most efficent AMS is 'cause it's like it has a shorter umbrella handle...

This doesn't follow. We all know they shoot at missiles diving into the ground way below the mount point.

I have a Citytech book right here. It doesn't mention SRM's specifically but reads;

"When a salvo of missiles attacks any BattleMech or vehicle equipped with an anti-missile system, the system automatically engages the salvo before the attacking player makes a to-hit roll for the missiles."

I think that requires initial LOS for activation. Once activated, it will probably be automatic tracking after that.

I've seen it happen on HPG many times. It's just a mindboggling sight really.
