The recent quirk gave Battlemaster 1S a healthy -10% cooldown on LRM15, and with that stacked on top of the other quirk, -10% cooldown on all missile weapons, brings the cooldown of LRM15 to 3.4 and LRM10 to 3.375, which are basically the same.

So, while I was in library earlier today (whenever I study in library more than 2 hours my brain becomes hyper active and begin coming up with crazy ideas), I came up with this build:

And this is the result very first pug drop:

Note that I clearly remember that I NARCed the enemy Hunchback and their two Stalkers. Notice their damage.

I practically removed them out of combat.

And that's when it dawned on me. This is the perfect build to counter Direwhales! A high-speed (in terms of an Assault) 'mech that could sustain the first few second of a Direwhale's wrath, plant a NARC on it, then reign hell from where the whale could not reach! And four MLas is more than enough to handle the knife fight. Of course you should stuff your face with coolant, but other than that, this thing is insanely good.

Okay. Now you have my secret, let's go slay some whales, shall we?

There are two things that kill Dire Wolves effectively - LRMs, and anybody piloting a mech that can get behind them and core their rears. My favourite mech, the Hunchback-4J, can do both :D

As for the Battlemaster build, I usually do well enough with spots, even in solo drops, that I don't need to NARC targets myself. I do stick a TAG in the left torso though with the majority of the LRM payload. I run a STD300 with 3 LRM15, 3 MLs, TAG, BAP and nine tons of ammo.. Use to run LRM50, two LRM15, two LRM10, but the new quirks make the LRM45 build better than that. I've tried out NARC on the 1S before, but TAG just did better in my experience, and thats without the added fragility of an XL engine. I would add that TAG got a 12.5% boost to range for 843m. I'll have to try this out, but based off of my personal experiences, I would've gone this route:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...58a4a1c2c23257c

ALRM45 with 10 tons of ammo and good cooling for forty total shots of all of them and TAG to boot. Couldn't go in and out to NARC a Dire Wolf, but the TAG would allow it to perform better against more agile enemy mechs (few things more satisfying than hitting that Spider that just performed a hit and run on you with 135 LRMs on its head) and, again, just my experience, getting spots on a Dire Wolf has never been particularly difficult for me.
