Never played mechs before. Have read a ton on the forums. My questions is: IF, I buy the founders deal and get the one with one free mech, which one for a novice pilot? I understand the basic speed vs power, no need to get a basic answer. I just want to know which do you think would be the best to learn on and have fun with? There are no wrong answers here. TY for your time.

The easiest mech to pilot imo would be the catapult. Teaches you about team work and good positioning, sit back rain death with your lrms

Well you can't go wrong with the Catapult. Enough speed, armor and fire power to keep you going. Plus if you don't like missile centered roles, you can always use the K2 variant which swaps the arms out for massive energy hardpoints (as in a pair of PPCs).

None,each requires its own set of rules and foibles to master yet can be equally "fun".

when training new people I always started em in lights, it gets em the basics and
they could use speed instead of brawn (better in the long run).

Kind of depends how you want to play. Possibly the lighter mechs to get used to piloting.

I find new people do worst in lights simply because they wind up in the wrong place 9/10 and just get melted, i find a slower fire support mech to be the easiest to learn for sure.

mind you i love my jenner B)

I'd have to strongly disagree on the catapult as being easy. It is a mech that is very difficult to solo and requires coordination to be successful. I guess I would have to say Jenner or Atlas, but really it is hard to say until we play.

Same questions. Same answer: Atlas. It has the most varied weapons, the most armor, and thus the most fudge room for error.

Honestly - depends on what you want to do? Atlas is 100 mech; carries a lot of firepoint; can take a lot of hits....when combined with other mechs can be very scary.....not exactly easy mech to pilot but fun...

Hunchback - middle weight - good utlity mech - can hold a lot of fire power - a good mech to run with - as support or firepower......honestly easier mech to handle.

Catapolt - solid heavy mech - gives long range support - fires LRMS - PPCs - can be very versital in its roles; armor wise not as heavy as a lot of others; but can take a few hits - again depending on the role you are looking to fill - they are a good support mech.

Jenner - backside brawler scout - the smallest mech at 35 tons - but don't let that fool you - they can pack a decent punch and have a lot of speed - they can use that to get behind mechs and blast them; like the Atlas - easy to pilot; possibly but hard to master........B)

Honestly depends on the role you want to play - if you're going to be joining a team; a house........merc group......:P I hope this helps

Honestly, if you are looking at it from a founders point of view, spring for the Legendary. You get one of each. Then see which fits you best.

But you may not be able to afford it, like me.

A med mech is generally considered the most versatile, I think, but yea, each has it's plus/minus points. A lot depends on what you want to do.

Depends on what you like to do.

A Jenner is a light mech and relies on speed.

Hunchback and Atlas are all about close in fighting

Catapult is about range combat.

I will say this, ranged fire support like the Catapult never goes out of style.

The easiest to pilot but probably the hardest to master would be the Atlas since it has lots of firepower and armor, but is a large lumbering target. You can figure out a lot of tricks for piloting mechs in the Jenner and Hunchback while the Catapult is easy to turn in a solid line mech or support mech to give a good feel of how a pretty standard mech would handle and operate.

They would probably all be fun, though to hep narrow it down, what do you think your particular style of fighting is in a giant warmachine?

Was always a believer in teach brain before brawn as in scouting and manuevering for a shot.
in past incarnation of mw on league drops, werent going to have the bug guns in the possesion
of the new ones, granted they always wanted to get into the bigger ones, which made them learn faster IMO.

Hunchback. It's your standard run up and shoot people mech. Doesn't require a lot of special tactics other than get close and fire. It can be fitted for long range direct fire support, if desired.

I'd recommend the Hunchback, personally. It's basically a pocket brawler, designed to get in close and lay into things, but without the dramatic lack of mobility you'd find on an Atlas...which isn't say it's fast, but it's not that slow. The Catapult's a fire-support platform, which means if you get caught out of position (probably an easy mistake for a beginner to make, especially since the Catapult is fairly slow) you're going to get devoured.

My other suggestion would be the Jenner, but it seems like a really easy way for a rookie to get in over their head and die.

I'd go with the Catapult or the Atlas. Not because they are the best but because they are likely to be the most c-bill expensive (of the 4 available in founders, of course) in the game. They are the bigger 2 of the 4.. they will cost more in the game. So.. when you first start playing you might still start off with a smaller mech to get used to how things work, how battles flow and so on... but you'll already have a "big" mech to fool around in rather than having to build up a c-bill reserve in your wallet to buy one of the bigger mechs..

..that's not to say that the Jenner and Hunchback are not good mechs.. because they are both awesome in their own way.. but if you later want to get an Atlas... you'll need to save up for it...

Founders give u 1 'free' mech... that should mean that you actually can afford a 2nd mech at start-up. People without Founders still need a mech right??!? B)
