Maybe. I don't know though. Those games were fairly arcade like. It might gave spawned "Call of MechAssault: Future Bro Shooter".
It would have been nice to see a more simulator MechWarrior game and see if it had the ability to survive on that. Don't know if we will ever get that chance again.

Those were never in "Video Arcades". They were in centers in various places and still exist. They had a few different ways to play it with less complex controls and much more "sim like" controls. I really need to wander over to the local place and get to know those guys.
Oh I'll happily bash all the crappy "arcade-y" Battletech/Mechwarrior games that have come out. There is a an actual arcade game that does a helicopter game, tank game, and Battletech game. I HAD to try it and wow was it disappointing. It was about as bad as the mechassault games. I found nothing redeeming about them. What they basically reminded me of was a 3D version of the "flying shooter games" where you shoot enemies while dodging their fire, blow up certain things, and power ups drop out that make your guns more powerful. You know:
Hey, now! Don't you dare spit upon 1942. That's a classic!

I didn't... it was classic and an excellent game for it's time. However, a game that is basically a 3D rehash of it's design 18 years later is hardly something to laud.

It wouldn't make sense to make a game like that for the PC.

I'd love to see a number of various up to date games in the battletech setting. An simple fast paced arcade game, a tactical RTS game, and a grand strategy TBS game. I don't see any concept as a threat to the other, it was a shame that MWT didn't turn out a serious project, and I hope someone will be able to do it right. Personally I would only play the turn based strategy and the sim (MWO), but the other titles would be good for the larger BT community.
Especially to introduce children, my daughter for example is too young to enjoy MWO but I'm sure she would like to play Mech assault 3 and say "hey dad I'm playing the same mech you do!" etc.

Just the Single Player part. They can forgo the Online bit altogether. They would need a serious AI upgrade as well.
MechCommander. Best game Manual eva...

That idea was presented and the backers said NO. That is why all we got of MW5 was a cool rendered short video. Times they are a changed. For good or for bad.

Russ then said that, IF MICROSOFT MADE ANOTHER BT/MW GAME THEY WOULD HAVE MADE ANOTHER MECHASSAULT GAME. Basically.
PGI saved us from Mechassault! WOO!
Note: Mechassault 1 and 2 were the **** back in my days on the original xbox, but I'm SOOOOOO glad we got a legitimate MW game and not arcadewarrior: online.
Rejoice!
Are you serious, or are you being sarcastic?

when compared to this game it leaves alot to be desired as far as MWO is concerned.

Several of the things they promised would come back never did. Collision tripping, anyone? Or how about how Mechs DID, during closed beta, have the ability to duck behind cover?
Their balancing mechanism is nothing short of hogwash. "We can't figure out how to fairly balance energy vs. ballistic, so we're just going to "nerf" everything with "Ghost Heat", which is NOT part of ANY of the lore in ANY universe, just some arbitrary, hastily thrown together garbage.
What's that? They just released a kick-*** new variant that stomps mudholes in the rest of the mechs but they cost MONEY and have all the best hardpoints?! YOU MEAN THEY MADE IT PAY-TO-WIN AFTER PROMISING US THEY WOULDN'T DO THAT? *LE GASP*
Then they wait six months while people complain about how OP this new variant is, which is their hope to begin with, because someone saying "This mech variant is OP" means that others are going to want to try it, so they dish out cash hand over fist for the new variant, and, sure enough, in six months, here comes NEW mechs while they quietly nerf the current OP mechs, thus technically ripping off the customer by providing something "exclusive" and then nerfing the **** out of it. They did this with one of the Centurion variants. (Which I still have in my inventory as a Champion mech) They took away the variant that could mount an AC/20, only to turn around and sell it, THEN GIVE IT AWAY in one of their competitions, thus making the initial purpose for it's intended purpose pointless and a waste of cash.
The only thing even WORTH buying anymore are the decals, which they FINALLY, after 3 damn years, got around to adding more and making it so we could place, rotate, resize...You can only have up to six decals per chassis (Luckily, once you unlock a decal, it's permanently unlocked for all mechs and variants). But the decals are a micro-transaction nightmare.
PGI didn't save us from a damn thing. The company that had the rights and was previously working on Mechwarrior Online had a better engine. It looked better, it rolled smoother, particle effects were breathtaking. The only people really defending this nightmare of a game are the hardcore fans of the franchise whom have been starved for a decent Mechwarrior game since Mechwarrior 4:Vengeance, and since this is pretty much all we have, this is what we're stuck playing, until someone comes along and builds a better engine and stays true to lore and doesn't include ******** "Nerfs" to ruin the way this game is meant to be played.
TL:DR- Ghost heat is ********, PGI doesn't listen to fans, They reverse-engineered the Cry-engine, so what we have is a slower-than-average giant robot *********** with pretty maps and shite for balance and ZERO role warfare.
If that's your idea of "Better than Mechassault", Then I'm afraid you're missing the mark by a few hundred kilometers.
