Ok, so when I first noticed that assists counted way more than kills I raised my eyebrow.

For those that don't Twitter, Russ mentioned that this was actually a mistake.

But at some point I was like, Ok, these are the rules, what can I do with them? So I went about almost killing a lot of mechs, and hilarity ensued.

For one you had to damage them super bad, because oddly enough, NOT killing them leads to a lot of NOT winning, and only wins counted. So LRM's were a must, even if it was just a 10, so that you could tap a guy across the way. I did take out some energy/ballistic mechs for change up, but never got higher than 8 or 9 assists.

My favorite moments were these:

I was in my DDC, and had a Hunchback chase one of our lights right into me, and a few AC20's hits later he was stripped, but the light had run off. Well, I'm not going to kill this guy, that's for sure, so I'm shooting what LRM's I have back across River City as we are now up 8 to 6 or some such, so I need to record the assists before the end of the match. But this Hunchie keeps stepping in my way! I'm trying to move and shoot around him and he's like, "NO, Kill me you MONSTER!". Eventually some one else came by and did the deed, but it was hilarious trying to maneuver around him to shoot at literally anything else.

I had one match in my Pretty Baby where I was wounding everything but no one would kill anything. Finally I said screw it and got 4 kills in a row by doing minimal damage. Any other day would have loved the match, but not this day.

My fav was when I was again in my DDC, we were up late Like 7to 3 or something, but I got too agressive on the last couple as was about to go down. But just before I did, the last mech that I hadn't seen all game came into view, and with my last medium laser remaining, I fired and saw my crosshair turn red, then I died. It was beautiful, it was poetic. And if PGI hadn't screwed this up, it wouldn't have meant anything. It was probably my best scoring match with 1 kills, 11 assists and 1040 damage.

So anyways, there's my silver linings for a cloudy (lrm cloudy that is) tournament.

I did find it funny at times the lengths some players would go to to avoid getting kills, one mech had me dead to rights but simply wouldn't finish me..... so i killed him with a measly pair of pulse lasers whilst he tried to find another mech to get an assist on. Lrms and things of that nature don't really concern me; this tournament brought about some quite peculiar player behaviour... I tried jumping on the bandwagon with some ER light play for a bit but.... got bored and played around my T-bolts instead. The extra c-bills will be a pulse helping me buy some more weapons modules.

Yeah, I noticed a lot of lights doing the ER from max range thing, not for scoring but for the extra cash from the assists. It was like being tickled all game long.

I had fun - but I did 2 things to accomplish that:

1. I played a Jenner for almost the entire event. (Once I realized that changing over to a clan didn't actually put me in the clan for the tourney because I was 'late' doing so. Some of us have jobs, ya know!) Anything bigger and the 'challenge' would have really been negligible.

2. Didn't care in the slightest bit about rankings or anything like that. I played the way I would normally and let whatever happened, happen.

Anyone who takes stock in rankings in this game, in my opinion, is foolish. With so many ways to game the 'system' as it were... it's just silly to take stock in these scores.

In the end, I played some matches, got my little widget (hula girl) and won some cbills. Overall, that's a win.

GG.

Damage should have been divided by 10 not 15.

Most people can't score over 1500 dmg and that is only 100 points , assist is 240 points and kills 120 points (if you kill everyone, good luck with that)

Much rather see the following:

20 points = Kill
10 points = Kill assist
5 points = Spotting assist **
2 point = Tag **
2 point = UAV **
1 point = Narc **
Net Damage divided by 10
** Max points of 200 combined for spot , tag, UAV , and Narc

Lights who tags, narc and spots will make up the loss in damage points vs bigger mechs who will get higher scores in damage.

Some tweaking might need to be done but would be more balanced than what is currently being done.

I had a blast in my little locust 3m, played a lot of leg em and leave em to game the system, but sometimes the kills just happened so I just said screw it and went for fast kills.

Gave up on leaderboards Saturday (was sitting at 16th or something) when only two of my last ten games counted and I had football to watch on sunday. Ended at 79.

Yeah Crush, that's why I pointed out that PGI admitted the scoring was an error, they didn't mean to score it the way they did, which made it all the more hilarious.

Was only playing yesterday in a 3 man group, and it was the best 3 man experience since a long time. Lots of great games with good Elo spread across both teams, it was a blast. And since nobody really wanted to score kills, I could take out a lot more people than usual in group play as a medium pilot. Still got 18 valid games.
Score system was bad though, should just be 15/15 for kills/assists and good.

I sat down for an afternoon and I made a couple million free C-bills, playing like I usually would. The extra income is appreciated, and I noticed very little change in gameplay compared to what MWO normally is.

I enjoyed the cbills for sure, the tournament itself was a bit on the dumb side because the formula used for score.

I liked the higher points for assists...it was entertaining. I actually enjoyed this tournament more than any I can recall in a long time. I also did not get shot in the back 1000 times over the weekend, which helped immensely...

Would be nice if PGI could show team damage at the EOM screen so you could see what idiots you need to make sure you keep in front of you, etc.

Aside from that, balanced scoring would be ideal. Perhaps 15/15 for kills assists? That would be loads of fun.

I'm on this forum all the time, yet I didn't even know there was a tourney this weekend. Honestly, I didn't play enough this weekend anyway to do anything different.

Glad some people knew about it and liked it.

I was one of the main detractors of this scoring formula, and still think it was a frustrating mess...

However I did have some good drops with 3-4 mans composed of fellow Aces, during some apparent lulls in the tourney action.

Then we started to win, our ELO kicked up, and we started to see the organized tryhards, and the fun kinda dissipated. Then I lost an hour of sleep I could have gotten due to their time mix-up, and realized I'd just wasted my time at the end.

So in summary, had a fun few hours with my guys, but that was mainly due to them being fun to drop with. Tourney itself....kinda wishing I hadn't bothered, for only 41 valid games...that's 4 hours of grinding for me worth of CBills, which I could have done any day, and avoided the tourney abusers.

Live and learn I guess.

Yeah OP did well on the DCMS table. I wasn't able to play much but got in 5 games, won 3 and walked away with 400K C-bills.. One was a memorable game on Therma, which I typically don't do well in, where I picked up 4 kills (and 4 assists, so that went kaching for me too).

All that in Solo queue, mind you. I had fun, that's always good.

I didn't mind it, I didn't really like it either. It ruined solo queue for another weekend, but it wasn't too odious, unlike the tonnes of fun one which was a huge pain.

It was not a huge surprise that the factions with the most players won. All the tourneys I've seen so far have been purely based on most matches played. I'm not sure why they keep that up, because it just makes the regular players get burnt out. On Twitch people used to be excited about things, now they generally groan about it and lament that it's another tourney weekend.

A tournament, by it's very nature, involves elimnation and brackets. As it is, it's just throwing dice hoping you end up with yahtzee as often as possible. The terrible scoring method didn't help this much (or the last few either) . While match score has some issues with favoring damage overly much, it's considerably better at actually comparing who did something USEFUL in the match. All these other systems seem founded on PGI trying to farm data. Farming data is fine, but there's a limit to the number of weekends in a row I have to ignore because you're constantly farming data before I just give up on it all. Encouraging players to do things that don't result in them to win (in a group environment) is never a good idea for the longevity of the game; I don't care what data you're attempting to farm.

I had a great time, but didn't really change my play style for the tournament. Still went for the kills, and had a great time.

I am kind of confused about the talk of the lrms, didn't really see much of them myself and was playing most all weekend in the group que, figured with a tournament there would have been more.

I saw the scoring system and quickly understood lots of people were going to play in full derp mode, so I played something else.

I really have to wonder if PGI keep some alt accounts for posts such as this one^...

No offense..but really? Who white knights that hard without some kind of incentive? I even love this game, but I'm not blind enough to think everything's perfect...people like that really baffle the hell out of me..
