I would like to see the game add a player defined role for this mech.
This could take a wide range of forms between something as simple as picking a contract before each mission which would define for your team to see what role you intend to fill and perhaps give you a bonus to certain types of in-match rewards.
The roles I'd suggest would start with the "quirk" list roles:
brawler
skirmisher
support
But I would suggest breaking support into 3 categories for clarity within the game:
Scouting Support
Direct Fire Support
Indirect Fire Support
This is 5 roles, each with a different flavor and play style within in the match. If each was given it's own icon, and that icon was displayed next to your mech name on the start up list, your team could more easy organize into functional groups.
Additionally, each role could be provided with a bonus(perhaps 1/5x to 2x) to a certain type of reward.
Brawler: damage/assists/protector(because heavies and assaults should be earning this)
Skirmisher: flanking/hitandrun
Direct Fire support: Damage/kills/assists
Indirect Fire Support: Damage/assists
Scouting Support: Spotting/UAV/TAG/NARC bonuses
At minimum this system would help define for a team who will fill what role, and help define for each player what rewards will earn them extra.
If taken to the next level something as detailed as a selection while in the mechlab that fixes a "role" for the mech (and can be changed at will within the mechlab) and helps define what items and modules can be equipped by the mech could be set up.
For example:
So while working on your mech you select that it's role is going to be scout/spotter. This opens up TAG/NARC/BAP/ECM/UAV/Arty/Airstrike, but closes off access to coolant flushes, weapons over a certain size (unless you mech is designed to carry them like the PPC on the panther or AC20 on the Hunchie). Additionally, you mech would receive a 2x bonus to all scouting and spotting rewards.
Or take the same mech and select "Direct Fire Support". This closes off TAG/NARC/BAP/ECM/UAV/Arty/Airstrike, but opens off access to coolant flushes, and long range weapons over a certain size like the PPC and Gauss, but leave the AC20 and maybe 10 closed. Additionally, you gain 2x bonuses on rewards like "protected".
Or take the same mech and select "skirmisher" while building. This closes off coolant flushes, TAG/UAV/Arty/Airstrikes, but opens BAP/NARC/ECM and large pulse lasers. Players gain 2x bonuses on hit and run and flanking actions.
Thoughts?

All this was originally slated for launch with the game if you go back and look at some of the original promotional material. Somewhere, it became lost in the great Nebula of Missing Ideas.
